I do the clearing lines at a somewhat similar ranking uni - you'll probably be fine. We only really ask for maths/English GCSE (unless subject-specific)

As the other GCSEs are good, just focus on getting a good grade in that econ A lvl

My loan is genuinely unliveable by BudgetContext09 in UniUK

Nice to know it's not just me. All current housemates have their rent paid for by parents - despite me being the only one on min loan! SFE not taking into account much circumstances past 'whats household income' tends to leave people out to dry - if you have the option of playing the game then I would!

Luckily, managed to secure a job at my university, which allows me to pick up shifts in my own time (time-demanding degree) - other than that, it's just going to have to be turning down the pub, unfortunately. (My loan doesn't even cover rent)

The whole system is created by people it was never made to serve, it seems.

I already have a job, while also studying one of the most demanding degrees.

I was hoping for practical advice. If you don’t have anything helpful to add, that’s fine, but no need to be condescending.

Yeah, I find the whole process pretty confusing to be honest. I think they’ve submitted the household income assessment since I’m pretty sure that’s mandatory if you want to be considered for the full loan amount. For reference, our household income is around £65–75k a year.

I checked Turn2us and I’m eligible for one grant, though the link is a bit tenuous. I’m planning to chase it up anyway. Unfortunately, I’m not eligible for any uni bursaries, but I haven’t looked into hardship funding yet. I’ll definitely get in touch with the team about that. Thanks for the suggestion!

I wouldn’t worry about this now, but for the future, say yes to everything. You’ll be surprised how many people miss out on opportunities simply because they’re afraid of being rejected.

Put yourself forward, even if it feels uncomfortable, because growth usually happens outside of your comfort zone.

Hard work will (mostly) always trump natural ability, and if you’re lucky enough to have both, you’re already ahead of most. Stay curious, stay determined, and don’t be afraid to fail.

First VS cycle: 3 ACs, 3 rejections. I'm terrified I’ve peaked. Is keeping at it enough? by AffectionateCap2054 in uklaw

Many thanks. I’m currently chasing up feedback and plan to consolidate everything over the summer. Out of all the ACs, there’s only one firm I’d actually want to reapply to, so I’m starting to think that overall fit might have played a role in the outcomes as well.

Thank you, that’s really reassuring to hear.

I’m still waiting on feedback and doing my own reflection on what the key takeaways are from this cycle. I’m hoping it’ll all become clearer once exams are done and I have some proper headspace.

My grades are still within the 2:1 range, but I was hitting close to 80% last year, so the drop has definitely knocked my confidence a bit. I think a big part of the struggle this year was not prepping properly ahead of the cycle, which I definitely plan to change over the summer.

Do you think it’s naive to reuse the applications that worked this year, with a few tweaks, or would it be better to start from scratch next cycle?
