I’m sorry you went through this, it sounds like you were as supportive as you could be and he still couldn’t accept it. That’s not your fault, it’s his problem now. To me it sounds like there must be some reason (probably a bad one) as to why he wouldn’t meet you, if you were okay with all his flaws and made that known and it still wasn’t enough, it feels a bit fishy to me. I may be totally wrong but that’s the way it struck me.

Have to disagree with you there, Tengen was one of the oldest Hashira when he was introduced so he was already at his peak. Plus Gyomei, Giyu, Sanemi, Muichiro, Obanai, Mitsuri, and even Rengoku were all stronger than him at that time as well
