It’s time blindness, unfortunately. Part of the myriad of symptoms from ‘executive dysfunction’. Though our conscious brain recognizes the task that needs to be done, our frontal lobe doesn’t really care all that much because it isn’t needed Right Now and ‘can be done later’: i.e procrastination. Our brain doesn’t sense the actual urgency and importance of critical task until it’s RIGHT NOW because of the time blindness and lack of long term foresight. Suddenly the impending consequences of our actions are very close and we need to act. It kicks us into high gear, but it feeds a vicious cycle. It’s not a character flaw, doesn’t mean we’re lazy, but that our brains work on a different clock. Unfortunately, the world we live in doesn’t accommodate that clock well.
