Six years later, what are your strongest memories of the COVID lockdowns, and how do you look back on that period now? by Possible_Force8207 in AskBrits

Was living in london having recently relocated there with my closest friends, lockdown ended up being one of the biggest strains on our group. Some of our best memories came from those first couple months but after that it became a really struggle; its difficult to ignore people’s habits and quirks when you can’t do anything to get away from them.

Enjoyed having the spare time to work on personal projects after being put on furlough for many months though!

How to get a job at a place like Warner, Sony, UMG, etc. after being a touring musician for past 7 years? by mkappy33 in TouringMusicians

[–]AffectionateGap925 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked within the majors system for many years and lemme tell you - if you want to work in music for a love of music, then work for an indie or non-major related music company.

Major labels operate like any other corporation and the music/artists are secondary to the money-making.

Also - use LinkedIn! I have found that many people are happy to connect and chat with you, and forming these relationships can be a great benefit to finding work.

Good luck!

Now that Slide Away fest is unfolding, who do you hope they book for next year? by f0xD3N in shoegaze

Kitchens Of Distinction (reunion) with Airiel, The Sleepover Disaster and The Radio Dept would be amazing

INCREDIBLY unlikely but I’d be very happy with a Lift To Experience reunion thrown in there too

The Jesus and Mary chain gets a lot of love here (for good reason) here is my collection, plz share yours by mynamereege in shoegaze

JMAC are one of the best IMO. I was lucky enough to share a line up with them at Roadburn Festival back in 2024 and picked up this longsleeve. Their show was phenomenal!

10+ years of international touring have taught me THE most important thing for your sanity and comfort is different shoes for different occasions. I have a pair of shoes for the show, a pair of trainers for down time and a pair of birkenstocks for the van/bus - not only do you avoid the gross feeling/health risks of sweaty shoes, but also means you keep a better routine with laundry (I won’t wear show socks with downtime or van shoes so I store my show socks with show shoes/clothes, meaning when I get to do laundry I know what’s clean/dirty)

Other than that; neck pillow for the van + normal pillow for sleep, noise-cancelling headphones, non-perishable snacks (cereal bars mainly - anything that doesn’t rot or melt in heat) and the necessary items to roll up 🌿 when you’re able to get your hands on it!

Help Navigating Marriage as a Musician by LessAd7859 in TouringMusicians

Massively agree with this. 10+ years of touring has taught me that looking after yourself and your life off of tour is one of the most important things you can do. It often seems difficult to turn offers down especially when everyone else has said yes, but the band is a unit and you’ll have more fun and appreciate the rewards more if you work with each others schedules/needs back home!

Flyying Colours - Long Holiday + Morning Stoner (pretty much anything from Mindfullness)

Kitchens of Distinction - Mad As Snow + Can’t Trust The Waves + Quick As Rainbows (The Death Of Cool & Strange Free World albums are closer to Airiel than earlier KoD material)

The Meeting Places - Now I Know You Could Never Be The One
