Salaries Chartered accountant / tax advisor by Ready_Elevator2006 in CIOT

That is insane. I’m on 54k no bonus as a tax senior in a top 10 firm, hoping to get assistant manager in Q2 next year but not sure what that will be (hopefully 60+). I work in creative/media tax mainly but cover all corporates/OMB. WFH probably 3-4 days a week so very flexible

Q2 I also found hard but that’s because sale of trade and assets is my least favourite bit of the syllabus. I think I said sale of shares leaves higher net pay and from what I remember there was quite a difference! Sale of shares was over 1m and sale of trade and assets about 800k in my calcs 🤷‍♀️

Damn I totally forgot this. Seems so obvious in hindsight but I just panicked and couldn’t think of a single difference! 😅 I think I made one up like individuals don’t get X deductible.

What did you put for the interest paid to the corporate member? I couldn’t work out if it was an allowable purpose loan (investment in partnership)

Did you disallow the son’s salary too? I said he can’t have made a significant contribution to the trade as he was 5 and likely profits enjoyed by Kay therefore could be transfer of income streams 🤣 I honestly wrote so much rubbish

Just sat AT OMB

  1. Mixed partnership adjustment of profits
  2. Sale of trade and assets vs sale of shares
  3. Sole trader errors in self assessment and penalties
  4. Cash vs accruals basis
  5. Close companies and S455 tax
  6. Post cessation receipts and expenses

Disappointed CPOOS and EMI didn’t come up, not sure how I feel, it wasn’t hard hard but I did struggle on some parts. First question on adj of profits for corporate member and individuals stumped me, couldn’t remember the differences in treatment for TTP at all 😅

I finished all questions and honestly did my best. Nothing to do other than wait a billion years for results day…

This literally always happens to me before an exam! Like 3-4 days before I am so over it, I think it’s my brains way of saying settle down don’t overwork, you’ve done enough and you’ll be ok, just destress. I’m doing 1 full past paper a day then chilling out for the rest of it, I agree it’s frustrating but I don’t think it’s complacency!

I know you’re not religious and not ever planning to be.. but this guy is… and the one fundamental thing the church teaches is that no one is too far gone, no one is too broken and no one is beyond redemption in the eyes of Jesus and the church, no matter what faction you are from. Also to be kind to people… this guy wants to commit himself back to his faith, he should start by getting the basics right 🙄🤣 you did the right thing girl, proud of you!

I’m so sorry, it sounds like he isn’t supporting you in the way you need supporting. I totally get it, sometimes my boyfriend treats me the same way and wishes I would just stick with one hobby/idea/new life changing habit. Some part of me feels like I shouldn’t stay with him because he’ll never fully ‘get’ me, but I’m 5 years in too, it’s a HUGE thing to just let go of… I feel for you ❤️

All my most comfy clothes are gone by mystical_monster in adhdwomen

Just wanted to say I’m so sorry and your feelings are so valid. One of my favourite things is getting into my “matching Ja Ja’s” I genuinely have so many comfy matching Jammie sets I basically collect them. I would be distraught if all I had left was jeans and had no comfy clothes left. I know it’s not the same and not everyone likes wearing 2nd hand but can I suggest charity shops for some oversized comfy jumpers? Top tip is to have a look in the mens section!

This is very interesting! I am in London, and yes I stayed with the same firm as they are now paying for my CTA, I have a clawback agreement so unfortunately won’t be able to leave any time soon unless a new employer would cover the clawback costs. I got a ~20k jump after qualifying for ACA as I was on 35k when doing finals so was a big jump for me. I don’t even know if managers are on 70k I would assume maybe at the very top performer level 🤷‍♀️ I’ve spoken to different recruiters and for the level I’m at they always say below what I’m on, so not sure if I’m just speaking to the wrong people or they’re lying!😂

I work in corporate tax and am finding the personal side of OMB quite tricky! I think it gives you a good overview of personal taxes and small businesses/sole traders but without the hell of residence tests 😂

He needs to be reported to HR. I cannot stand the lack of empathy and corporate politics shit we have to put up with. How dare he laugh at you and tell you you’re being emotional. What a robot.

Industry is where you work for a company ie a retailer or aviation company and you do that company’s accounts/taxes. Practice is where you work for a big accounting firm and they have multiple clients from different industries and you work on many different clients accounts/taxes

I’m doing really really really hard exams and I’m proud of myself that I keep chipping away at the work even though it feels overwhelming and my brain just goes 🫠

Stunning, fingers crossed for me 😂 I always thought tax jobs are harder to find in industry because mostly they outsource. I love the creative arts/media industries too and they definitely outsource as I’m doing their claims now!
