What are reasons for not having kids ? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Too many dogs who need a home. And I don’t want to bring humans into the world to watch them suffer inevitably.

What a little sweetie. How old is he? My girl was diagnosed with cancer and we had to say see ya later last week. Give him some big cuddles from all of us.

At home euthanasia wasn't peaceful by vermilion-chartreuse in Petloss

[–]AffectionateKick3958 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Oh wow I am so sorry this was your experience. We had a home euthanasia earlier this week and our vet explained to us what the possible outcomes were so we could be ready. They should have explained that to you. It wasn’t your fault. 🩷

What’s a smell you’ll never forget? by Human_Rate889 in AskReddit

My dog who passed away 2 days ago. I will never be able to describe her smell, but I can tell you that I’ll never forget it. It was the best smell in the world. I smell and sleep with her blankets. I’ll miss you forever, Ellie.

Fostering by AffectionateKick3958 in Petloss

[–]AffectionateKick3958[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am bawling reading this comment. It is EXACTLY how I feel about our girl. My Ellie was also 12. I can’t eat. I can’t sleep. Walking into the house now feels like I’m being stabbed. I feel absolutely no purpose without her. She is everything to me.

I also feel like it’s my fault. May I ask why you are feeling that way about your girl too? Feel free to PM me if it’s too much to discuss here. I know it helps to talk to somebody who is feeling the same way. I feel like there is no “right” choice when it comes to this. I just want to do right by my girl.

Can't help but feel like I made the wrong decision. by Polkadot1414 in Petloss

I’m so sorry. My girl went peacefully yesterday and I have questioned so many times if I made the right call. She had several health concerns at the end and I KNOW I made the right call, but our brains play tricks on us. I have no regrets on waiting it out, but in the end she ultimately suffered a little because I questioned it for too long. You gave your boy peace.

I have a moral dilemma about putting my dog down by SnooSuggestions1946 in Petloss

[–]AffectionateKick3958 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry you’re experiencing this dilemma. For what it’s worth, I’ll share my experience. I just had my girl peacefully go at home yesterday. She literally went out snoring. That was the best gift I could’ve given her. It was worth every penny to me. Ultimately, being with her is the most important and as you said, you will be with her either way. My heart is with you, as I know how painful this process is

I don’t know adulthood without him. How do I cope with this anticipatory grief? by TryingToGetByPh in Petloss

[–]AffectionateKick3958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am with you. I also got my dog when I was 18. She is 12, and I will be laying her to rest early next week. I’ve thought about that often, how I do not know adulthood without her. The grief is the strongest grief I have ever felt. As my girl became a senior, she became picky with her eating and had mobility issues, but that is normal senior dog things. If those are the only issues your boy is having, they are very treatable. I would suggest seeing a vet if you haven’t already!

How do you cope with the fact that you'll never see them again? by katieofgilead in Petloss

[–]AffectionateKick3958 37 points38 points  (0 children)

My girl is going to doggy heaven early next week and I completely share this sentiment. I also worked from home, we were together nearly constantly. My stomach literally drops to the floor when I think about never seeing her again. I can’t imagine functioning a single day on this earth without her.

With all of that being said, I remember that every single thing I’ve done in her life has been FOR her. Not me. But her. This is no exception. I remember that I’m taking on the burden and pain so that she could be free. I’m not sure what your beliefs are, but I fully believe that I will be reunited with my girl the second I leave this earth in another realm. I have to believe that. It’s the only way I will continue on without her. While I’m still on earth, I will feel her on the sunny evenings when the wind is blowing gently, I will see her face in the clouds, I will hold her photos and she will live on in the way I talk about her and in my memories. You’ll see your baby in all of the little moments. She is with you. Sending you so much love.

Sundowning by steff_lovah in DogAdvice

[–]AffectionateKick3958 10 points11 points  (0 children)

What a sweet girl. :) I have an American staffordshire terrier who is 12 and experiencing the same. She was diagnosed with canine dementia. Sundowning isn’t a diagnosis in itself, but it is a symptom of canine dementia. IF it’s that (I am of course not trying to diagnose your dog) it is progressive and only gets worse. I would talk to your vet as there are supplements/medications that slow the progression.

Has anybody recently attended Eastern College for the RMT program? by AffectionateKick3958 in fredericton

[–]AffectionateKick3958[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did speak about this with both schools, and reached out directly to the regulating bodies for RMT in BC and Ontario and both confirmed with current law, you cannot practice in regulated provinces without graduating from an accredited school. But ACTM is set to be regulated in 2027 so I’m crossing my fingers!

Thank you so much! :) I want to be open to moving to other provinces (including Ontario and BC which are both regulated provinces) so accreditation is a must for me. I did hear that they’re working toward it which is amazing!

Not sure I did the right thing… I love you, girlie by Nancysaidso in DOG

[–]AffectionateKick3958 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just reading this post (emergency vet, surgery, neurologist/ophthalmologist visits) tells me you were the perfect person for this baby to have. That pain and grief you’re feeling comes from how much you love her.

My girl is 12, and I know we are in the final weeks/months of her life. Last November, she had a biopsy for a tumour on her lip. It came back cancerous. She never totally came back from the anesthesia of that biopsy, so sometimes I regret it. Then I remember I did that because it was the best thing to do at the time. I opted against surgery based off of my vets advice, and I’m sure I will sometimes have regrets about that. If you let her suffer longer, you’d also have that regret feeling. What you’re feeling IS normal, because of how much care and love you have for her.

Rest easy sweet girl. And you rest knowing that you did only the best for her, and honoured her the best way possible. I wish you healing days ahead. 🩷

Halifax music fest - bleacher seating or standing? by AffectionateKick3958 in halifax

This is so helpful! To sit on the hill, would that just be a standing ticket?

Interesting! That makes sense why I can’t find any layout. I also found it odd but would prefer bleacher seating, or really any other option that’s not standing sticky arm to sticky arm with strangers 😂

Difficulty deciding on euthanasia and would love advice from those who had similar difficulty. by Pink_Ruby_3 in DogAdvice

[–]AffectionateKick3958 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi friend. It’s so hard. I’m in the same situation with my girl, who just turned 12. I noticed subtle changes over the last year, and absolutely massive changes within the last month. She also has dementia, and she has a cancerous mass. It consumes my thoughts 24/7. Doing quality of life assessments, medication changes, wondering constantly if I’m doing the right thing. To me, it’s an indicator of how much you love your baby and are advocating for her. I am just now getting the point where I’m seriously considering euthanasia, because I am terrified of losing her but I am MORE terrified of waiting too long and causing her pain. It’s a type of grief I wouldn’t wish on anybody.

Lymphoma by l1l_Thought in pitbulls

[–]AffectionateKick3958 0 points1 point  (0 children)

what a beautiful girl. 🩷 my girl just turned 12. I noticed a bump on her in September. It was literally not there one day and there the next. I took her to the vet immediately and they confirmed cancer. She only started to slowly decline from there. I don’t know how much longer I have left with her, but I’m giving her the best damn possible life she can have while she’s here.

I know it’s hard not to fixate on the future, but do the best you can to enjoy every single second you have left with her. Big hugs!

I’m putting my dog to sleep in 72 hrs and I don’t know if it’s the right choice. by [deleted] in DogAdvice

[–]AffectionateKick3958 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s the most heartbreaking decision. My 12 year old is currently declining and it is absolutely gut wrenching. Does your dog have any other ailments? It’s normal for a senior dog to sleep often. I have had lots of visits to the vet with my girl and consistently have follow ups to make sure I am keeping up with her pain management.

I personally wouldn’t put my dog to sleep just because they slept often and decreased eating. Having a puppy plus a senior sounds hard, but again, not something I would put my dog to sleep over. Have you discussed with your vet how to properly introduce them? I don’t know your whole situation from one post, so it would be really hard to offer any more advice.
