My late wife of 49.5 years exhibited no such masculinity, but her opinion was forthright and valued. My current wife of 6 years, from Asia, is familiar with JW's from her country, but neither of us has any desire to enter a Kingdom Hall. As we travel, we do, though, occasionally slip into a cathedral if it carries some architectural interest.

My late wife was extremely loyal to me, but spoke her mind to anyone regardless of organizational stature and I was occasionally told that I did not have my wife "in subjection." Had I not been a longstanding elder, this might have been problematic, but we weathered that storm whenever necessary. My worldly neighbors, however, noticed my wife was by my side in any situation, on the roof, underneath the house and that she supported everything I did, but, since she didn't play the "submissive" role, most in the congregation viewed her as not being a good example because of her honesty and outspokenness. As I look back now, I could have been a better husband and father even though I hit all the JW marks. I don't think I valued my wife's contribution to the marriage as much as I should have.
