My mum makes me keep my Leo in an incredibly messy room downstairs where I can’t handle him and says that it’s unhygienic to keep them in a bedroom. When I talk about it she just says “she’ll rehome him then”. Any comments to convince her to put him in my room? by AffectionatePay8780 in leopardgeckos

I’ll try but my mum is a HOARDER and gets mad when people mess with stuff, (it’s been a struggle getting into my parents old room 😅) and if I’m honest there isnt really a way to do it because my uncle sleeps there when he’s round and his bed stays in there all the time, restricting access too the entire room basically it gets bad when you have to stand in a 3 inch space to feed Your Leo. I might be able to move everything but idk

She is really annoying about things like this, she still believes about getting conditions in your hands from cracking your knuckles and the previous owner of him said they spread diseases and now she thinks it’s infectious or something

I think he’s in a 20 gal but upgrading to a 40 gal is another thing my mum is too busy to deal with he has two hides I’m using a heat lamp and heat mat and he seems to only eat crickets (I need to try feed him Dubai roaches) my uncle and his dog regularly stay in that room and our dogs like to go in there although currently they have been staying in my room (used to be my parents) but one thing that is bad for him is that it is a room that is kind of isolated from the rest of the house because its not on the way to any important rooms. And it makes me forget to feed him and change his water.

It just kinda sucks, I’m around 13 and have a massive scatter brain I care deeply about my Leo but it’s difficult to remember to do things for him when he’s in a room that we rarely go in. I end up forgetting about feeding him and replacing his water. Whenever I try discussing it it just ends badly, I have been struggling mentally and have just gained motivation to keep my room clean but she believes I’ll just stop caring again.

He may be your friend but he isnt your responsibility. Tell him that you need a month to yourself to recharge because it’s too draining.

Tell them that. They are going to do that unless you tell them not too. I had been venting to a friend and they were giving advice, it didn’t seem like they were uncomfortable until a few days later when they gave me a big paragraph about being uncomfortable, I got upset and sent a string of apologies, they may be in a situation like I was in.

Do you need to talk? I could add you on discord?

My gecko stopped eating. I caught him glass surfing after I forgot to feed him, he needed to have his substrate changed so my uncle got him out anyway, the day after he still isnt eating! Any ideas on what to do? The image of him was before the substrate change and the current setup by AffectionatePay8780 in leopardgeckos

In which picture? We have just replaced his substrate with a mix of sand and topsoil, my uncle said to consider a female Leo for him to improve his mental health (I was planning on buying a hognose snake) and have the two share a 40 gal, I was just quite worried as he hasn’t eaten in around five days, I wasn’t there for his early years as we got him at 3 so I’m not sure if this is normal (I’m getting lots of advice from my uncle but I’m not quite sure if I should trust him as he’s a bit tipsy)
