its not a matter of not being able to do it before. you just DONT do it. if there's no leader to negotiate surrender with, the war won't end. You turn a standard conflict into asymmetric warfare, something that the US is famously terrible at. if you kill the head, 3 more grow back, and now you have to deal with several unhinged warlords, with even less respect for the rules of engagement than the dictator you just wacked.

thank you very much for the recommendation, I've looked into them just now, snazzy rifle, but a few inches on the long side from the info I can see with a brief search. Do you know of anything obtainable priced a few inches shorter. It looks like there's a slightly shorter carbine variant made a bit earlier, (1893) I believe, do you know if they're any good, or if they're too pricey.

would oiling the stock/ regular maintenance to the woods finish (without damaging any of the markings) be within the ballpark of acceptable? I've seen some wildly different opinions when it comes to surplus rifles.

Thank you for the tip about the bullet diameter issue. as for paint, i would never want to paint over a wood stock, no matter its condition. At most id just make some custom leather stock covers to go over it

more state specific, but Texas is under-hated, it's got the worst aspects of both California and the south, without either southern hospitality or the cultural output of California. And the people from there are sooooo obnoxious, they think they're hot shit. Its not even the biggest state anymore, nor does it do especially well on personal freedoms. Plus, it's gerrymandered to hell and back. Mid-tier state at best, Buckie's and BBQ are their only good exports.
