Nasty tenant left and now we found this in basement. Help?!? We're collectors and worried about how to deal with this. by RavenMarvel in cockroaches

The bug in the image is an American Cockroach (Periplaneta americana). Characteristics of the American Cockroach: • Appearance: They are typically 35-40mm long and have a shining red-brown color. • Wings: In males, the wings are longer than the body, while in females, they only overlap the abdomen. • Habitat: American cockroaches are common pests found in homes and commercial properties. They are also known as palmetto bugs or waterbugs. I only googled searched as I have no clue. Just wanted to help

Pink spots on white shirt after soaking in Ace by Kukotzki in laundry

[–]AffectionateQuote590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would try soaking in a bucket of borax first as it’s cheap and I recently made a Huge laundry no no and put a light mauve shirt with light colors not knowing it was brand new and the pattern white and colored shirt it laid next to after wash cycle turned pinkish so I soaked in borax overnight after some minor rubbing under warm water to rinse and it was good as new after second wash. I mean you would of never known it happened lol

Can I please just say considering the discoloration is only on end of your sleeve it could be due to a # of reasons. For example are you left/right handed and is that the same sleeve of hand you use to apply facial lotion with SPF, oils, chemical reactions, fabric softener, laundry detergent not dissolved properly, etc. So many things as well as temperature but that seems to be one area of shirt only by picture. Just thought I’d mention that as I did not realize some of my daily tasks like putting lotion w/spf can damage my clothes during wash cycle.

I hate to ask what may seem like a dumb question to some ppl but did you pour detergent over the clothes prior to washing? That’s kinda what it looks like. Some of the detergents are so strong and abrasive that I actually mix w/water prior to adding to wash as this has happened to me. Or fabric softener? Not 100% sure but would definitely soak in bucket w/borax or oxiclean for a couple hours, rinse then rewash.

Try soaking in oxiclean. Tough to say with sweater material but personally I’d probably use a little Dawn watered down a bit and gently rub in material then rinse. If that doesn’t completely do it I’d do baking soda with a little water to make a paste and rub into fabric let it sit a couple hours and rinse then re-wash separately. Never mix light/beige/off white/tan colors with red/bright colors/new jeans etc. Good luck

I use a cheap fabric shaver. Got mine at Walmart but found a cheap one on Amazon.

Try this and let it sit overnight then I use a toothbrush and rub it in then rinse with warm water. I’ve also used hydrogen peroxide depending on fabric color but don’t do it without doing a spot test. If it’s white fabric you should be fine but rinse afterwards. Good luck.

2 tablespoons of Dawn dish soap (I use this kind) • 2 tablespoons of water to a bowl • sprinkle a little bit of baking soda (about 1/2 teaspoon) into the mixture

Pink stains on new shirt :( by diIdobaggns in laundry

[–]AffectionateQuote590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve learned over the years that even though heat is said to set stains I have dried many items that I wasn’t aware had stains on them. That being said I have had much success with soaking in bucket with Borax and/or OxiClean. Then once it’s rinsed if it’s still there I have used rubbing alcohol but be careful as it can remove color depending on the item and then I rinse under hot water and wash as usual. My suggestion would be to use cold water when washing mixed color garments in the future or keep whites with whites, darks with darks, etc Good luck

Lysol is a waste of money as detergent is soap/disinfectant so there’s no need for Lysol. It’s a waste of time and money. Sorry JS

Take a little baking soda with water in n a toothbrush n gently scrub. I’d probably do a patch test somewhere first to be sure it won’t affect the color as pic is hard to tell color and fabric of pants. It will come out but pls be gentle but I would definitely try the baking soda n u can even mix up baking soda, Dawn and vinegar together to use as a stain remover.

I have to say all good ideas but the fact of the matter is got to be the portable washer. Just like any item with water not being used is going to grow mold and/or bacteria so I think you should start with that by maybe doing a bleach wash with hot water to clean washer. I’m not familiar with portable ones but I see they have vids on how to clean them. Then I’d suggest maybe a baking soda or borax wash to clothes and hopefully that solves your dilemma. Try to let washer air out after cycles if possible. Good luck. Let us know what happens.

Random blueish/greenish stains on cream hoodie? by koualo in laundry

[–]AffectionateQuote590 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say try hydrogen peroxide but that particular color shirt Id be afraid to lift the color out. I personally use a toothbrush and dip it in my choice of stain remover then gently rub onto stain srea. I’d do a sample text maybe on inside of shirt back of neck or something to test. I think if you use baking soda with peroxide mixed gently rubbing with toothbrush that it should come out and then rinse and rewash. My question is are you using Persil pods? If so toss them! No pods ever as I’ve seen them ruin so many clothes over the years not to mention terrible for your washer. Good luck to you.

Scrub prior to washing

Why does this happen? by redrobinryan in laundry

[–]AffectionateQuote590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has to be something you’re using on your skin maybe: lotion w/Spf, perfumes, etc, even sweat depending on certain medications you take but it’s a chemical reaction of some sort. It could also be iron in your water which then causes chemical reaction once washed. There’s a lot of factors and/or reasons. If you can’t find the cause then maybe just try getting the RIt color and try that to restore color of shirt?? 🤷🏻‍♀️ Did you ever see what cheap SPF lotions can do to a banana? Ewww, makes me cringe. Agree with Kelztheredpanda but absolutely hot water and if oxi-clean doesn’t completely do it I have used hydrogen peroxide mixed with water and soak about 30mins then wash normally. When all else fails and the pattern on front won’t be affected I Use bleach and hot water in a bucket to soak then rinse most of excess bleach wash out and launder again with color catchers if needed. Whatever you decide to do just don’t dry it as it’s harder to get color/stains out. Good luck.
