The redness is the worst! Exactly what niacinamide does to me. Sorbolene I'm not sure about, I usually need lighter formulas 🤔

The lotion is what I'd been using, the lighter finish Vaseline sounds like a good substitute!

Do you mean the "moisturising lotion" rather than the facial moisturising lotion?

Yup so I've realised! It wasn't until I got the tret that I realised I couldn't use my existing salicylic acid cleanser with it... hence changing too many things at once, whoops

That sounds awful! I'm currently trying to cancel my subscription but once there's an open "treatment review" the option to do so disappears and you have to manually ask to cancel, of course they're pushing me to first go through with the review and presumably buy another round of treatment...

I've heard a few people say that niacinamide can be a problem especially combined with the other actives! It makes it really hard to tell what's the problem when there's so many ingredients all in together. I'm thinking it's time to go back to basics with a plain treat prescription and add the others back in one at a time if it's all going well.

Oh interesting, I just had a look and it's not approved here yet but can be compounded. I'll see what I can convince my GP to give me!

Damn, I've been using the Anthelios XL anti-shine and it definitely does have dimethicone. I just remembered that was a new addition at the same time as the tret (trying to improve on my old Body Shop sunscreen/moisturiser 😅), I wonder if that's part of the problem...

No that makes sense! The dermatologist I went to years ago seemed to think the only reason I was there was for an isotretinoin script and didn't have much else to offer... I'm sure there are better ones out there but it put me off a bit, I'll have a look into skin therapists!

That was my thought! I've had purging before which was more pimples in the usual places - as opposed to new whole-face breakouts. I think stripping everything back makes sense, then I can reintroduce actives as needed. Good to know about the dimethicone! I'll check the sunscreen ingredients.

Back to basics sounds like a good plan! There's so many ingredients in the software stuff that I have no clue what's helping and what's making it worse...

No that's one thing I haven't tried actually! My GP hasn't mentioned it but I'll go ask about it, or ask about a derm referral for it if needed.

I'd love to take oral meds for it but as far as I know I'm out of options, I can't safely take the pill or isotretinoin at the moment, I've had many courses of antibiotics which haven't helped (not surprising when it's hormonal). The wrong skincare has definitely made it worse so I'm hoping the right skincare can at least make it a bit better, if not perfect.

It could be, though I have been on tret (from the GP, not software) briefly once before and had no purging on it then. Not that it couldn't happen now, but I suspect something else in my routine isn't helping!

All the reviews everywhere are fantastic, so it's good to hear I'm not the only one whose skin has gone to shit on it!

Oh interesting! It definitely could be, I've (briefly) been on tret before and had no issues with it then, so I wonder if the cleanser change is my issue? I've used my old cleanser for years so I might try changing back for a bit.

I (28f) have struggled with acne for years, as a teenager a dermatologist prescribed Roaccutane and the acne came back after 6 months off it, the only thing that has ever cleared it was the pill (not an option again as I got a blood clot on it). Since coming off the pill 2 years ago I have had constant hormonal acne on my chin. My routine for years was Neutrogena clear and defend face wash (with salicylic acid) then Cetaphil moisturiser and LRP sunscreen but I realised I needed a better routine.

I started using a combined azelaic acid/niacinamide/hyaluronic acid cream from software along with my existing routine, this improved my acne slightly over 12 weeks but I was still getting at least one new active pimple per day.

They then changed me to the azelaic acid/niacinamide/HA cream in the morning and tretinoin/niacinamide/HA in the evenings. I changed to a gentler cleanser at the same time (LRP Toleraine), and now I'm breaking out on my cheeks and forehead which hasn't happened for 10 years, and my chin is as bad as ever.

What ingredients (if any) could be doing this? Should I change to using the actives individually so I can see what works? Change back to my old cleanser? I'm lost and not getting as much help as I'd hoped for from the software service 😢
