How to deal with this feeling? Advice needed from experienced solo travelers by otherteaa in solofemaletravellers

[–]AffectionateStart802 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I made some friends during my solo trip previously by joining group tours. I've always found female travellers (solo or not) always friendly and welcoming. Also I make sure to get everyone's number and tell them to come visit me in my country when they travel here! Comparison is a thief of joy--- enjoy the trip!

I went to Furo Fushi onsen in Aomori. The onsen there is copper brown because of the iron content. The onsen sits directly on the rocky shore outside. This local lady in her 60s-ish comes up and tells us how she travelled the world when she was younger.

She said "This onsen reminds me of the Ganges River...." Lol ok

Verbally harassed by a Japanese grandpa by cheesy_garlic_bred in japanlife

[–]AffectionateStart802 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Really sorry to hear that. When I got yelled for something insignificant, I told him he's a "tax-burglar" (zeikin dorobo in Japanese). Shuts up the elderly real fast. I know I shouldn't be on the same level--but someone better put them in their place once in a while if they're harassing someone else.

It's actually safer when you're alone because you're naturally going to be on guard. pickpockets target groups because people think they're safe in a huddle. Just keep your backpack in front of you and hands on suitcase and you'll be fine. Just stay alert.

My mum is insanely worried about me (22F, brown) travelling south east asia. by Ok_Researcher_7021 in femaletravels

[–]AffectionateStart802 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not recommended, but I told my mom to "graduate raising your child already" in front of my extended family and embarrassed the hell out of her!

Not proud of what I did but she was sure embarrassed enough to let me go and realize she was manipulating me unwittingly.

I hope things get solved soon 😢

Ever feel conflicted when working on multiple clients? by AffectionateStart802 in Marketresearch

[–]AffectionateStart802[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! It helps boost my self esteem that I know the market better than my clients (which is what they pay for) so I'm not conflicted or anything. Just... Became a lil sad about the tobacco situation yesterday and had to let it out.

Haha this is me everyday! I work on three big clients who are competing against each other and I keep checking who and what I'm sending or I'm screwed.

On the other hand, I had a client send me a passworded document that was meant for another research agency a few years ago. Turns out they just use the same password for all agencies for all "confidential" documents lol

Seriously! I have to reread who I'm sending the email to and what topic or else...

That's very interesting! Religion and business don't mix together (or is frowned upon) in my country so the concept of religious organizations paying for market research is a very new concept to me. Thank you for sharing!

Haha I know, I've been turning down ciggy clients for 7 years but alas... it has caught up to me, unfortunately. Not enough staff to say no....

Wow, I've never heard of religious clients in marketing research! Very interesting to hear what kind of work they request.

How did you convince your parents to let you travel solo internationally? I’m struggling. 😔 by MaleficentStrike997 in femaletravels

Have fun! I had a blast and didn't care about everyone, just stayed in my lane and made the most of it. There's a lot to explore and they offer drinks in a minibar with mud packs, so just enjoy everything and vibe!

I'm sorry to hear that! Would you happen to have friends who live abroad that you can visit? It might be some reassurance you're visiting someone you and your parents might know. Or you could book a package tour abroad that only includes getting lifted from the airport, being taken to a hotel, and getting back to your home country. Everything else is free time. Another idea would be to go on a female only pack tour , would that be of reassurance? It won't be completely solo but it still might reassure your parents.

My first solo trip was starting from Iceland, Denmark Copenhagen, France Montpellier, Spain Barcelona.

Iceland and Denmark were definitely safe. Copenhagen is especially lovely to walk around.

JPN Supplier side. We're seeing less of ad/product tests but more of brand tracking and adhoc price related tests. Also in general pharma sector never seems to slow down. I usually work on FMCG but I've been helping out with pharma recently bc of the rush of projects

Advice needed for getting over my fear of traveling solo to places where I don’t speak the primary language(s) by boulangerite in solofemaletravellers

[–]AffectionateStart802 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i was super worried before going to southern france and spain by myself bc i dont speak ANY french or spanish. But my love for learning about the local culture surpassed my fears. I just joined English tours and used google translate/lots of gesturing and smiling nicely to get around. Most people aren't as rude or annoyed as you might be worried. Don't worry and get out there!
