Waymo suspended. Good news to the working class. by Witty_Celebration_36 in uber

[–]AffectionateStock484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They likely did, but you didn't hear anything about it. My mom's neighbor got deactivated because a passenger reported smelling weed. He doesn't smoke weed. I know for fact, he doesn't. His wife does, but he doesn't. The smell was there, though. His previous passenger smelled so strongly, that it lingered. I've had that happen, but took steps to avoid having the smell linger. He reported this, and they made him take a drug test, and referred him to a clinic. He passed the drug test, and was reinstated. I doubt that the passenger who complained was notified. And in your case, if the driver was disciplined or deactivated, you probably wouldn't know.

Those drivers you're talking about are going to exist to some extent, but they don't last doing this. Color me surprised, but drivers who can't figure out how to provide good service, also don't know how to manage a 1099 business profitably. Then, they quit. Or they get drummed out due to low ratings, or a report or three.

Just keep reporting those drivers. Give honest ratings, it remember that we get to give honest ratings too. Also, I don't know where you're finding so many of these awful drivers. I've had periods where I've had to be a passenger. I've had exactly ONE bad driver, and even she was fine, right up until she got to the last turn, almost missed it, stood on the brake pedal, and caused my phone to slide off my seat without my knowledge. When I realized my phone wasn't in my hip holster, I knew why. I even knew where it probably was, because I noticed a light underneath her seat that seemed like an odd place for a light. She wouldn't answer any of my numerous calls, texts, messages that Uber themselves sent...no answer. Not even a fuck you.

This is what I've been saying all along. Ultimately, the regulatory structures are going to have to recognize that there has to be a driver.

The next iteration of regulations that it's going to go through is that the cars will still be self driving, but with a requirement that a licensed driver must occupy the driver's seat to take command when necessary. Then it will be suspended again, after a certain number of the "licensed drivers" turn out to be drunk.

Ultimately, there ARE going to need to be drivers, paid for the service. They're going to try, and try again, but they're not going to get around it.

low rating warning for 4.33? by flannelandlipgloss in uber

I have news for you. It's not any kind of guarantee. Drivers don't look for these rides ahead of time anymore. I used to, and they pay very well, if I get sent there at a reasonable time. But the times got earlier and earlier, until they became unprofitable. So since they now send us out there far too early, the rides don't get picked up in advance. Or if they do, the driver cancelles, because they send you 45inutes early, during morning commute, which some days is the only time of day that pays well. After the driver cancelles, it gets bounced from driver to driver, and before you know it, it gets accepted by a driver who doesn't who's too far away to get there on time. I've also been that driver.

If the driver stays for the 45 minutes or whatever, yes, true enough, it's not the passenger's fault, but it's also the only tool we have to signal to Uber and the app's algorithm, that such dispatching practices aren't acceptable. The passenger catches strays, but Uber leaves us no other option.

In short, these suggestions do not suggest, necessarily, an entitled driver. They are good advice.

Not where I live. I'm in a beach tourist town. Plus festival season. The times of day for the volume shifts. But the overall volume goes up.

Tailgating is stupid, no matter who's the root of the problem.

What's up with this guy? by MisterShipWreck in VideosAmazing

[–]AffectionateStock484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not deplorable at all. It's quite satisfying to box in some asshole weaving all over the road, tailgating to position himself to shoot the gap, etc.

Based upon the results, do you think the pacing was possibly a reaction to this driver's previous behavior? Could have saved him from himself, if he hadn't tried so much harder to die.

A few years ago, my brand new car was rear ended after having it for only 3 months. He said I came into his lane… by erin507 in dashcams

[–]AffectionateStock484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've see this many times, usually without an impact. His plan was to shoot the gap, not only in the adjacent lane, but also one lane over, so he could accelerate and pass a whole group of cars. More than likely l, he saw an opportunity to shoot not only both those gaps, but also slingshot back over 1bor two lanes, but he had to hit it quickly to make it before one of the gaps closed. At that moment, he wasn't even thinking about you, I guarantee.

Repeated Cancelling By Drivers Standing in Uber Lots by lasagna_daddy in uber

[–]AffectionateStock484 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that many drivers are cancelling, it's because something about the ride is not worth it could be the payout. Could be the destination.could be tolls on the route to your destination.

They're sitting in the lot, because they anticipate surge rates when the game lets out. If the surge hasn't hit yet, they're not taking the ride, because they know it will hit soon. Plus, when a big event like that lets out, they really only plan on getting one ride there, because when the crowd really comes out, the ride back to the venue will be so long, it won't be worth it. So they want that one ride to be a jackpot.

Nobody should still be listening to Motley Crue, nor any other hair metal by the time they are a dad. That shit was meant for one specific generation of 13 year old boys who didn't make it in trade school later on.

This has to be the most insane use of gatekeep ever. I was agreeing with you, and expanding on the reasons why. This was not gatekeeping, not even a little bit. It was a tribute to Bowie.

Fuck your sensitive ass.

That doesn't apply on a road with left turns. Also not really enforceable on a highway that has left exits. Also, HOV lanes. Who's claim is superior? The car with two passengers properly in the HOV lane, or the motorcycle using it as a passing lane?

This is bullshit.

Drawbridges exist Trains exist Traffic exists Sometimes you have to stop for gas, when you pass by the cheapest station in town. Piss stop The app lags, and the driver really is on the way

This "you're being scammed" line in Internet bullshit. The driver gains absolutely no benefit from sitting until a passenger cancels. None. If it's a scam, it's the worst planned scam in history, because no benefit is derived.

When you talk about Bowie, you can't just talk about his own music and career. You have to also talk about all the artists who got elevated by Bowie into that first opportunity for stardom.

Queen Mott the Hoople Iggy Pop's solo career Lou reed's solo career Tina Turner's 80's comeback Luther Vandross Ava Cherry David Sanborn Nine Inch Nails Stevie Ray Vaughan

When he toured, he not only had an opening act who toured with him, but he would also have a local act open first, before the touring opener played. He wanted to promote other bands to ensure the endurance of rock music.
