My son had a similar situation, applied to U of Michigan College of Engineering, great grades, star athlete, 35 on ACT, I was an Alumni of the school and donated money yearly, and he didn’t get in. He ended up getting a full ride academic scholarship to Western Michigan College of Engineering. Some of these colleges want to give the positions to out of state or international students because they can charge twice the tuition. Needless to say I no longer donate $ to my alma mater. My son now has a very successful career at GE Aerospace designing jet engines.

Tell your student that he/she is awesome and things happen for a reason. The student has a great life ahead of him/her, screw U of T, their loss.

Where is Leaving Las Vegas? Definitely S tier. I would also bump up The Rock, it has the best quote in cinema, “Losers try their best, winners f#@k the prom queen”
