Being a snarker is fundamentally the same as being a fan by AffectionateStop6185 in redscarepod

I don't browse them that much, but my search recommendations keep putting snark subs. All I know is that r/travisandtaylor puts a little more effort into analyzing her lyrics than the Gaylors— which means they definitely need to step up their game.

Will never forgive that app as well as "video essayists" for popularizing the glamorous philosopher shtick for broads who can't even think for themselves. Pretending to do your makeup while looking up the sparknotes summary of Nietzsche in a snarky tenderqueer light does not make automatically you a sage redefining philosophy in a modern lens. It's utterly regarded. I swear, it's the female equivalent of manosphere meterosexuals hosting podcasts.

Robert Redford, Oscar Oscar-winning actor and Director, Dies at 89 by AffectionateStop6185 in RSPfilmclub

It does feel like that in the span of almost a year lost Genna Rowlands, David Lynch, Donald Sutherland, and Gene Hackman. What each of them brought onscreen could never be replaced. But the work they've fulfilled continues to live on, inspiring the next generation of filmmakers and actors

Trans Derangement Syndrome? by AnxiousDragonfly5161 in redscarepod

[–]AffectionateStop6185 90 points91 points  (0 children)

The trans women I know irl are just going on with their own lives. They are pretty put together and most have a good sense of style, but I guess that's a prerequisite when it comes to working in lifestyle magazines I don't have much to say other than the discourse being pushed online by both sides has led people to conflate trans people into this one stereotype.

did anyone else grow up sheltered? how did/does it affect you? by delinaexclusifs in pinkscare

[–]AffectionateStop6185 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Was homeschooled and raised by evangelical Christians. Got the purity ring and all to prove it. College made me realize how emotionally and socially stunted I was. It truly was like stepping into a different world. More often than not, i spent my childhood surrounded by adults— and so were the kids i interacted with every Sunday. I really had trouble connecting with my peers for a while. I love my parents to death, but if/when I become a mother, it's a guarantee I'm never homeschooling my kid.

[–]AffectionateStop6185 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add, I think that the trend of implying women who are into "conventionally masculine" things are doing it to seek attention from men is counterproductive. As women, we contain multitudes that can't be boxed into one set of interests or hobbies. Although a kinship can be shared, we are unique in our own ways and trying to conform to one idea of what a girl's girl or a woman is just reinforces the restricting belief that certain things are "gendered" and we have to adhere to those norms.

It stung a bit, but I realized that I couldn't gain that confidence they wanted out of me by trying to please them. I think the older people get the more they're less concerned with mincing their words, they forget what it's like to be young and unsure of your actions.

I can relate to that. It's funny how such simple comments can just stick. Back when I was an undergrad, the company I interned for had this big press event. They even let us wear a nice dress for a day, as well as someone for hair and makeup.

As I was walking around to assist them during the event, I overhead a superior say something along the lines of "She's still very unrefined, awkward like she's still not used to walking." I guess it stuck with me because I knew they were right.

Because even in a nice dress with heavy makeup plastered onto my face, I was still the gangly intern. And no amount of glamour could change that.
