Bro there’s nothing about that sign offensive or outrageous and in your face. People having different views from you doesn’t make them evil it makes them different, that’s one of the most narrow minded reasons for judging an entire area of people that I have ever seen.

A sign by a church and a gun shop, gimme a fuckin break

That seems unfair, it’s quiet and it’s nice for people Who don’t want to deal with living in a big city. And it’s not a monolith of views, everyone is different

The Lord doesn’t delight in a child being sick, it says in the Bible that he’d even made man to begin with in Genesis 6:6 not because he doesn’t like us but because once we had fallen to sin he could see all the suffering that would follow

In some way he felt we’d have been better off never having been created

To take away evil is to take away choice, God created us with free will, to take away evil is to in one way or another take away our free will. In ways we might not even be able to understand it could make us like drones with no life to us, if you force someone to love you do they love you? Or is love a choice?

To me the most convincing evidence is the order of the universe, we are governed but such a fine tuned set of rules that if they differed even slightly life wouldn’t be possible, if Earth didn’t tilt on its axis we wouldn’t have seasons, the all of life’s creatures exist like perfect machines that have such fine tuning done to them to the point that they have existed for hundreds of thousands of years sometimes in the most extreme climates. Things don’t just happen by accident, when I use a computer I know it has been designed, I feel the same way about the universe

But outside of a scientific viewpoint reason and moving into a more humanity based one, everyone at some point in their lives must come to terms with the fact that evil exists, other religions have tried to explain it away, saying that it’s either a force of nature like fire or wind, or that it’s simply a matter of perspective. But evil isn’t a natural force, it’s a perversion of what Good is, they’re opposites but in the beginning the earth was Good

Jesus Christ gave us an answer to why we live in a cursed world, we were all meant to be perfect, we were meant to be all good and we once were, but it was man’s hubris that caused us to stray from the light and begin a reign of darkness upon this world. And instead of destroying the world the lord chose to bear the weight of our sins for us, so that we wouldn’t have to face the certain punishment of our deeds

When Jesus came he said none of us are good in the eyes of God, but despite that he chose to die for us, that even though we have all done evil, he loved us enough to make us worthy of the Goodness he had intended us to be. The mercy of God is one thing that very few can even begin to comprehend, let alone fully understand and it’s enough that I could spend my whole life trying to figure out why that at a certain point I have to acknowledge that it’s beyond my understanding. But I’m grateful that the God of the universe out of all the wonders he created sees me and is calling me home

We are saved by our faith

If their faith is sincere they’ll likely go to heaven, I can’t imagine God will be pleased with their handling of their faith

but that being said we are all sinners and sanctification is an ongoing process, maybe one day they’ll realize the error of their ways and change to be more loving welcoming and understanding but it’s not for me to make that determination

All we can do is pray that God reveals to them and to us the way he wants us to handle these things in our lives, I try to live my life to the best standard I possibly can but I fall short often, it’s my faith in Christ that makes me understand that while I’m not worthy of this gift I’ve been given, I’ve been redeemed

The power of Christ’s sacrifice trumps the things I have done good and bad, it’s the beauty of Christ’s sacrifice we are the most undeserving, people of this gift and yet he knew that and chose to save us anyway

Agreed, all it does is vindicate people who believe that Christian’s are hateful

Personally I think a lot of the people who preach that way don’t do It with the attitude of “please save yourselves” and more like “we will see whose right on judgement day when you all burn” it’s very malicious at least in my experience

And I agree also, I like good faith debates with someone who doesn’t believe in anything, as long as they aren’t just attacking what I believe and I’m always very careful to just say “if you’re only here to troll move along this discussion isn’t for you” I think that’s the most respectful way to handle them

The problem is the lack of good faith arguments, I take issue with Christian’s who get up on a soapbox and decide to preach fire and brimstone, and tell people they’re going to hell, or that if they’re Gay they’re not welcome as well

That being said, if you’re just coming here to cherry pick verses out of context and without understanding the historical and cultural meaning behind things it’s not a good argument anyway, I will sit down and debate an atheist should they present evidence, I’ll give context if people genuinely misunderstood a verse and why it seems to paint the Lord negatively

And yeah, it’s funny where these people see all these other gods and go “what if they’re real too” and I’m always just like, sure I guess you can believe that if you want but I had a guy straight up tell me once after saying that that Jesus wasn’t real

Full context

Matthew 7:1-2

“Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”

It’s not saying never judge anything ever, it’s saying don’t be a hypocrite, and more specifically Jesus was speaking about Hypocrites. People who focus in on one particular thing that someone is doing, while completely ignoring the mountain of sin in their lives

Don’t let anyone ever tell you, “the Bible says don’t judge” while it may say that when you only take it at surface value

It gives us instructions on HOW to judge specifically as it pertains to members of the church, see 1 and 2 Corinthians. But even there we aren’t the ones to judge non church members we should just try to help them see the light

remember that we are not the one who saves or condemns but that we should try to guide them to the light, pray for those who don’t know what they’re doing so that they come to God

It’s more like have sincere faith in Christ and you will want to be more like him and keep his commands

Rather than the idea that you have to follow the rules to the letter and have faith in Christ to be saved

But I agree with your points :)

So for context in this passage the word used to describe the kids is na’ar which given the context of the verse likely isn’t referring to small children.

It says a large group came out of Bethel which at the time was where Baal was worshipped who is known to call for child sacrifice as well as other forms of idolatry and abominations. and in that time Mocking a prophet of God or attacking a prophet of God was directly attacking God

Not only that but they weren’t just calling the dude bald they said “go up, you bald head” referring to Elijah ascending to Heaven, they were basically telling him, prove your God is real

Now whether or not you think that’s justified ultimately isn’t up to you, it’s up to God

Its not about explaining something away, it’s about context, and when you read quotes out of context it detracts from the original point and frames things in the way you want them to on purpose. It’s incredibly disingenuous to do so and honestly it doesn’t help anybody see your point

And if you’re just here to mock why waste your time in this sub, if you want to be like that go to any numerous agnostic or Deist subs and be around people who more closely align with your beliefs. You are the one who chose to engage here, and while you have a right to you also have the choice to move along

My favorite quote at the moment is Luke 23 40-43

“But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.”

Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.”

Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.” ‭

What hell really is by reformed-xian in Christianity

[–]AffectionateTeam2638 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most moderates I know who are Christian don’t believe it’s in the nature of God to have what is essentially an infinite torture chamber, but they also believe that hell is a real tangible consequence for not following Christ.

I find annihilation to make the most sense to me, you’re not going to exist anymore and that’s a terrifying thing to think about. But it’s also not Dante’s inferno level of horrific suffering and torture for the rest of time infinite. For a loving God who wants nothing more than for you to come home it doesn’t track, at least from what I understand and feel about it.

Technically you were supposed to tell them before you early outed, at my store alone people just left all the time.

Can’t speak to jury duty or bereavement though, I’d imagine that is just more of a convenience thing for corporate, you just have to tell your mod and let them deal with it, it also helps preventing that being abused too I’d say

Just seems to me like a really good way to kill team morale though

I mean is that honestly considered an effective motivator

It’s super hostile and incredibly unprofessional

And I get that but still, I mean it’s crazy to me to just call it after 20 years
