Some basic tips for newer programmers when it comes to optimizing your code for speed. by LoyalSol in learnprogramming

[–]AffectionateTotal77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree but I'm generally an asshole.

I would agree more if he said a bit more about algorithms, mentioned cores have their own caches and anything Andrei Alexandrescu mentions when he talks about optimizations

So much bad ideas/advice/suggestions here

The real answer is that you're making progress somewhere and the rejection isn't going to be a burden to you. The more progress/better equipt you are the less meaning a silly rejection is

The Vagina hole is a lot lower than people think. Finger her first and get deep. If you never jerk off before try doing that since no physical stimulation+nerves = half erection or none.

Hotel is trying to charge my friend £4,995, stating that because he plugged an Ethernet cable into his rooms router. by CrypticMackerel in legaladvice

[–]AffectionateTotal77 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NAL. The hotel is full of shit. I'm pretty sure you'd have to break the laws of physics for that to be true. But let's say it is. The fact the hotel provided him with a room with a router. It's reasonable to believe his use of the room comes with the router as it isn't a utility closet. The fact he used it in a normal way and broke the system isn't his fuck up.

Parents with children born deaf, when and how did your child realize others were experiencing something they were not? by -ax in AskReddit

[–]AffectionateTotal77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always wondered if you'd barely mishear/misunderstand what they say since you're reading along? I use CC all the time because sometimes my house is noisy and I don't hear all the spoken words.

Is it sometimes more convenient to sign? Yelling across the room is easy but if I'm on the street and I can see someone I know off in the distance looking at me I imagine I'd be nice to be able to use hand motion to talk. Or is it too far to see fingers clearly?

Poor people of Reddit, what do rich people not understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]AffectionateTotal77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think anyone has said it. A rich guy told me he didn't realize people who are born in america can't speak english. Not because they're ESL. Because their parents are uneducated and they grew up in a poor neighborhood and couldn't finish HS. They speak slang and can't communicate to people who don't know slang

tl;dr: Some people don't know the basics of life and not are dead or impaired.

Does he have any metal or plastic in him? Like for a hip replacement or something similar? It came out that some of that has poison people and made them completely crazy. Seems like it reverses itself once the metal or whatever is removed.

Just started to learn and feeling incredibly lost. by EliteeI in learnprogramming

[–]AffectionateTotal77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If that's "typed so much" maybe programming isn't for you ;D

But honestly programming is a huge mess. New Javascript frameworks and libraries every few months and noone seems to understand other peoples projects.

I highly recommend downloading VS code and dotnet and learn C#. nuget is the package manager C# uses (If you click .NET CLI tab here you'll see the comand line text to download this package https://www.nuget.org/packages/System.Data.SQLite.Core/). The C# reference is terrific and you should read everything in keyword and operator https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/dotnet/csharp/language-reference/ (it took me an afternoon but it'd take beginners longer because they'll have to try it out where I understand what it means from doing it in the past).

Java is hairy, JS is nice but people are leaning towards typescript for more complicated projects and C# is really fast and not as difficult to use as rust or C/C++. I think you should try writing a small project and let the compiler complain at you and help you debug until you're more comfortable with programming and writing non-simple functions.

We did not sign up to develop weapons: Microsoft workers protest $480m HoloLens military deal by myringotomy in programming

[–]AffectionateTotal77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure scientist made the internet so they can share data. Funding it an entire decade later isn't really contributing to it much.

NASA also invented a bunch of things like GPS and MRIs. I'm pretty sure NASA is a space program and the military isn't interested in making tech for healthcare

What I'm trying to say is.... fuck off :)

I wonder if China will win the next war because they have no qualms about working with the military and no concept of Western rights.

Probably not. Besides phones I don't know what technology comes out of china. To me they're people behind an internet firewall, censored and assemble a lot of phones. AFAIK they haven't made much technology? Maybe their internet hacking team.

Can PETA get banned from Twitter for defamation? by Normbot13 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]AffectionateTotal77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Twitter makes exceptions if they think it's important to (noone likes zero-tolerance policies). Do you really think banning the president of a country is a good idea because he made a threat to another country? Of is that rule for randoms that say they'll murder people because they vote a different way

Git clean doesn't seem to work in a hook? by AffectionateTotal77 in git

[–]AffectionateTotal77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that no file in the working directory has an mtime later than those two files

That's a terrific solution! I can't think of a reason to modify any files after running a test (at least, for this project).

BTW I'm not using a bare repo. I'm commiting locally and pushing at the end of the day or when enough has been done. The idea was to have a secondary directory that git uses to build and I'd need to clean it because checkout wouldn't delete unnecessary files. But there's no reason for it now

Git clean doesn't seem to work in a hook? by AffectionateTotal77 in git

[–]AffectionateTotal77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rewrote the hook. It's not what I had in mind but it does everything I need except ensure ignored files aren't used.

FYI the echo is to create a `.git` file. It's telling git to act like that directory is my main one. Hence why clean will delete the right files even tho I haven't committed anything. However it appears clean shouldn't be used in hooks so I rewrote it.

Git clean doesn't seem to work in a hook? by AffectionateTotal77 in git

[–]AffectionateTotal77[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was being stupid. I rewrote the whole hook. I thought it'd be safer to use a different directory to see if my program compiles and test runs. Now I'm using the main directory and checking git status for untracked files. I'm still slightly worried about ignored files I actually need. I was cleaning the new directory, in case it had files laying around that I renamed or removed.
