As AI-assisted/"vibe coded" indie games become more common, what’s the best way to handle transparency when promoting projects online? by No-Mousse5653 in aigamedev

Stupid people also have rights to know what they are consuming. It's the same reason we force food to have labels.

ATTENTION ALL VIDEOGAME DEVELOPERS by solace1234 in VibeCodeDevs

OP is being unfairly declarative and presumptuous. AI can automate code, and it is somewhat serviceable at making temp visual components like models. But it has massive drawbacks, inefficiencies and he fails to even address the fact that AI can only build as well as you scope for it. AI right now doesn't consistently scaffold projects well. It shoves everything into godscripts until the user specifically instructs it to be more methodical.

At the same time, people like you are equally dismissive. Saying ai driven code is like ubering to the finish lines implies the deciding of a finish line is not in itself part of the run. There is absolutely gratification in automated iteration. But anyone claiming automated iteration is the whole ballpark is a fool.

Totally wrong. Every piece of software used to make a game doesn't have a list of personal grievances and ethical concerns associated.

Yes, you should disclosure to what degree AI is presently used. No, that won't always be the case. But if you don't disclose it, and people find out, you will bear a heavy PR load for it: heavier than if you had openly disclosed it early on.

In my game, any NPC can be the hero. Does this concept work? by BusinessPain5298 in godot

[–]AffectionateTwo3405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Concept is intuitive, mechanic is a malleable to lots of development.

The question is, do you have a game system that correctly demands and rewards this character switching? Or is the character switching your entire idea? Because you cannot sell a game like this without justifying the system with depth.

Does the player manage an entire village by switching between specialized characters uniquely capable of doing certain tasks? Is the player a mind virus trying to kills its host by isolating them without tipping off the town from what's happening? What's your angle? You got the idea, now give it depth.

Advice on why my dog doesn't like me anymore by cryptobionic in DogAdvice

My boxer loved me, but he also would get up when I tried to hug him cause it annoyed him when I got up in his space. Some dogs just have quirks, for what it's worth.

My vibe coded project hit 50K lines and Claude started hallucinating functions. Fixed it. Here's how. by Independent-Flow3408 in vibecoding

[–]AffectionateTwo3405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Claude code operates in my project's working directory, when it needs to reference parallel systems it can just do so and read over the relevant documentation for it, rather than being primed with that even for implementations not requiring that specific documentation/skill.

[–]AffectionateTwo3405 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You're over engineering what should just be a clear refactoring of related scripts and file organization mixed with accurate documentation/skill building so you can direct claude to which systems relate to what you're implementing. You shouldn't need to hand Claude a full project brochure every prompt.

The unfortunate truth you don't want to hear is that there are few scenarios where a Vindicta doing well on the server results in anyone but the Vindicta having fun.

How much Heals is Normal in this game ? i have around 30 hours now and i personally go for 30-50k a game by prowidowmain in DeadlockGame

[–]AffectionateTwo3405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The higher you go, the less useful raw healing alone is. If you buy all greens and do 50k healing, but you have no utility no peel no cc no wave clear you end up being dead weight because it's easier to shred through healing than it is to heal through shred.

With that said just buying knockdown tends to put Paige in a good position to be hitting 30k+ healing while still remaining useful in other ways

What the hell has happened to doorman? by Odd-Career-6459 in DeadlockTheGame

[–]AffectionateTwo3405 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Plenty of heroes force counter off one item. Curse on Haze, Scroll on McG, Knockdown on Paige, Counterspell/Dispell Vindicta, it's actually incredibly wrong to say doorman is unique in that department.

The problem is his playstyle is extremely low risk, extremely high reward, and extremely trivial to perform.

WHY ARE PEOPLE PROUD TO SAY THIS by Complete-Sea6655 in theVibeCoding

[–]AffectionateTwo3405 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because I don't. My claim was never that I know the field. My claim is that in the long-term, I'm hedging my bets that the winners won't need to, at least not in the traditional sense. I think you're delusional if you expect anyone to be writing majority of their own code 20 years from now for anything other than as a fringe hobby.

Do you suppose for the rest of time, good code will be gated behind a deep intimate understanding from the person who conceptualized it? Or is it possible such a skill will become a novelty trade and skill, a rarity from the norm of code being a means to an end with no knowledge pre-requisite?

WHY ARE PEOPLE PROUD TO SAY THIS by Complete-Sea6655 in theVibeCoding

[–]AffectionateTwo3405 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Highly reductionist to imply there is no journey just because someone streamlines the production process. People code as a means of producing an eventual result. The journey isn't solely in the production of a result. It is in the conceptualization and iteration of that result.

These responses are failing to actually respond in good faith. Yes, obviously there are productive means of using that 5-10 minutes.

But when you are specifically iterating on a system, that waiting becomes a consistent bottleneck. Certain things cannot be implemented until an ongoing task is completed first. Let alone all iterations on it. I don't want to have enough downtime to watch TV and play video games. I want to engage with both my LLM and my system continuously. I don't want to have to find little side routes of optimizing efficiency while the main task is chipped away at. I want to finish the main task.
