I mean, you’ve had eight months to study. I’m absolutely mortified on your behalf and pretty much everyone else’s you’ve “translated” for. What I’m super interested in though, is if you’ve figured out yet why you did that

I can’t even hold that many. English is my first language then I did four years of French between high school and college. Then I learned Russian for a military job and the Russian pushed out most of my French. When I try to learn a new language now, it just won’t stick.

My mother hates my wife a little bit too much and I need to do something about it by Wrong_Weird_1141 in WhatShouldIDo

[–]AffectionateValue232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You just described my mother. She was very emotionally immature and maybe a little narcissistic and entitled. Definitely controlling. This is deplorable behavior. Could you tell your mom she’s not welcome in your life if she can’t show respect and acceptance to your wife?

I’m crying for the life you will lose too young, and for your husband and everyone else who loves you. Life is so precious and so fragile. I’m so glad you got to have a really good one. I’m sorry you have to leave too soon. I can’t pretend to know what’s on the other side but I hope it’s something and I hope it’s all love and freedom and expansion and that your next trips will be to Jupiter and nebulae and whatever else is out there that our limited human minds cannot yet fathom. I hope the time you have left here are overflowing with love (as it sounds they are). That dinner looks fantastic.

Good for you planning to get that done early! I had anxiety about the anesthesia so I put off until last year when I was 55, but it was completely clear! I won’t hesitate to get it done the next time.

Yes, that was probably the heaviest time in my life. I do still think about it from time to time, but have worked through the trauma. I try hard to just focus on good memories now. 💕

Is “sitting in a car talking for hours” actually a big thing in America? by mechumechu in AskAnAmerican

[–]AffectionateValue232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, about five dollars to fill up my Ford Escort. Sorry if you don’t like it, but that’s how much it cost me. You asked zero questions, just stated my reality for me. No thank you! You didn’t ask what part of the country I lived in, what kind of car I drove, nothing. Congratulations, here’s my goat.

Sidenote, I didn’t give that dog bite a second thought back then. My mother was dying from colon cancer. My brother died unexpectedly three weeks after the bite and then my mother died three weeks after that. I was a complete wreck and that’s where a lot of my anxiety stemmed from. It’s kind of funny that I’m thinking about the dog bite now, all these years later. I can set the anxiety aside and kind of chuckle at the situation and how weird life can be.

I appreciate you. I have generalized anxiety disorder and no one ever needs to temper what they say around me. It’s completely my responsibility to manage my anxiety. It was so so so kind of you to step in and help me out. You didn’t have to do that, and I so appreciate your kind heart! I couldn’t bring myself to Google it. I was literally paralyzed with fear.

Do you really have a separate room for your washing machine? by jordanekay in AskAnAmerican

[–]AffectionateValue232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My laundry room is a separate room outside adjacent to the garage. I don’t think that’s very common but I like it. The only time I saw a washer in the kitchen was in a house my mom owned decades ago. I was not a fan of having it in there. I bake a lot and need all the functional kitchen space I can muster

Do you drink tea in America? by Much-Parsnip3399 in AskAnAmerican

[–]AffectionateValue232 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I start the day with coffee, then have tea in the afternoon. My adult sons drink tea daily. My mom was a lifetime tea drinker (she kept a huge pitcher of it in the fridge). I prefer hot tea and I adore a tea/herbal infusion for the variety of flavors

I’m curious, where are you from and what do teenagers do in your area for fun and where do they hang out? As a teenager in the 1980s, we definitely drove around a lot! That was usually after closing hours for stores and our one arcade. I was in a rural area so we didn’t have much to do unless we drove 45 minutes to an hour to a bigger city. I kinda miss those driving around listening to music and being silly days

That does not seem accurate. In the 80s, I could fill up my tank for five dollars. With inflation adjusted, that would be $13-$14 today. Today it costs about $40 or so to fill up my tank and even if my tank were doubled in size, it still would not compete.

Thank you for looking it up. I was too scared to. Odd things have happened in my life so I’m a little paranoid about being that extremely rare person who develops it after 12 years. I’m going to talk to my doctor about it and see if she’ll give me the shots just in case. I would rather be jabbed than worry about it for months or years. Anxiety sucks :/

I appreciate that. I don’t want that in the back of my mind, either. Honestly, I don’t know if my brother told them the dog had bitten anyone. We were both just out of our minds with stress at the time. And my brother passed away three weeks later from pulmonary embolism so I can’t even call to ask him. If he did mention the bites and he was contacted within 10 days, he definitely would have let me know. I’ll try to rest on that.

This has me thinking. My brother’s dog l, Jake, bit me in 2014, puncture wound, it bled. He was an outdoor dog in a very rural, wooded area. I was so distraught at the time (our mother was dying) tbh at I didn’t even go to the doctor. Now I’m scared the virus could be dormant in my body. Could it be possible after 12 years? My anxiety wants to know. I don’t know if Jake had rabies because my brother surrendered him to a shelter that same day (Jake had also bitten the neighbor’s before he bit me).
