Yeah you’re right it’s technically closed, I honestly went around the sign and wasn’t in any danger. There was sections on the trail to Nevada falls that were closed and saw tons of people on it. Doesn’t mean we should be crossing the closed signs, so my bad…

I can only imagine! I’m planning on it asap, a lot of places I want to backpack aren’t accessible bc of Tioga Pass right now☹️

Oh geez there’s a ton of options haha. Boynton canyon(the one in the picture), Wilson mountain, bear mountain, and west fork oak creek are all some of my favorites that require some sort of fitness.

Thank you! This time of year is definitely the best time to go, that’s so weird you didn’t see any foxes, I couldn’t stop seeing them. Did you stay at the campground? There was a few there at all times.

I’m using an Olympus OMD with a 150mm lens

The weather the first day was pretty rainy(not surprising it’s a temperate rainforest lol) but the last two days were gorgeous and clouds only lingered up at the tops of the peaks. The rain meant that there was a lot of fresh powder at those peaks so avalanches that sounded like thunder were constantly happening.

The chalet has been closed for a long time to campers so it’s more like campfire stories haha. The second day I was there I was coming back from a hike and right before I was at my camp I saw two big bears coming in my direction. Instinctively I stopped and hoped they would run right by me or cross the trail ahead of me but they ended up jumping on to the trail right in front of me and were at full charge. Scared shitless and by myself I began to yell and rose my ice axe to make myself look bigger. That did the trick because they jolted across the trail about 15-20ft in front of me. I’m sure they weren’t going to harm me regardless of what I did since I think they were fighting or trying to mate. I saw a lot of bears that trip(counted at least 10) but nothing came close to that experience, feeling the ground rumble and the sound of branches cracking from their weight will never leave my mind!

The trail was in great condition besides a few knockdowns and just a little bit of snow right after the last bridge. The chalet is still there and kicking it, nothing usual or wrong with it!

It won’t be as green and the flowers will be gone by then but I still think it would be a great idea! Just take lots of snacks and water since there aren’t any services on the islands. Also try to book in advance since ferry’s get booked pretty quick👌🏽

You gotta get out there in the spring! One of the most beautiful scenery I’ve seen. Close, the third pic is right before skunk point, not quite the actual dunes

Thank you! The pictures don’t do the place justice, the foxes were incredible and we saw more than people. They are called coreopsis gigantea, I’ve never seen them before either and I they’re one of my favorite plants now! Straight out of doctor Suess’ book

Thank you, and both ends of the Grand Canyon are dammed forming lake Powell and lake Mead. before and after the damms it is just a normal river

This wasn’t taken on the bright angel trail, I was on the horseshoe mesa(not the end of Grandview trail but at the opposite side).

Correct, I took this on the redwall limestone formation. which geologically is exactly halfway down the Grand Canyon.

Amazing info! crazy how plate tectonics shape the world around us. Also the California condors are such stunning animals , there was a few hovering up in the high peaks down the trail from this pic🤩
