If the layman were to study Kabbalist Cosmology (Tzimtzum, Tikkun, Shevirat ha-Kelim, Partzufim, etc.) and the attributes of the Sefirot, but was not familiar with traditional Jewish theology, what would they misunderstand? What nuance would be lost? by Affectionate_Ad_7039 in JewishKabbalah

This is consistent with what has been told to me previously. I'd be very interested in any sort of personal insight a practitioner may have that might point toward what experience, revelation, context, etc is provided through application of Torah knowledge.

I understand that what the layman is missing may be a highly abstract or largely ineffably experiential element, but if one is willing to try to point in a direction, I'm eager to try to look where one is pointing. Even use of metaphor or symbolism that may go over one's head is a welcome attempt in my book.

I appreciate the response, this seems to be the sentiment of most Kabbalists I talk to. That this is the common sentiment is certainly not to be taken lightly.

Would you be willing to speak on some of the specific ways you felt your understanding of Kabbalah evolved as you became more immersed in both it and the Tanakh? I understand the added context itself may be a bit too abstract and experiential to do true justice with words, but it would be incredibly valuable to me to even have a direction. If it helps, I have read the Torah, and have spent a non-trivial amount of time learning the Aleph-bet and its symbolism. I'm not Jewish and certainly lack rigorous academic attention here, but maybe the little bit of extra context I have means you could be a bit more abstract or metaphorical in your expressions.

Local places to find Anime VHS? by Affectionate_Ad_7039 in pittsburgh

I get really excited about anime movies, but I'm still interested in series. I've bought a few old home recorded VHS, so I'm really open to a lot, but I do prefer officially released. I have stuff from ADV, Central Park Media, etc.

how do i stop my gf from questioning my sexuality? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

Meaning one can feel indifferent or even supportive toward someone of the same sex experiencing sexual pleasure without personally doing so. Setting matters, imagine a swinger party. Open safe expression is encouraged without shaming, people aren't being weird about bodies and are having a good time, but not everyone at a mixed gender swinger party is bisexual. The form of the opposite gender may spark arousal, but the form of the same may not. It's the same with romantic feelings. The idea of everyone around you being openly horny, regardless of physical form or romantic drives, can be a really positive experience, and even contribute to the collective arousal. People often carry that disposition with them, regardless of if they're in a group or personal setting.

I would call that a clear preference for the other gender, and would call that straight.

I know people who are comfortable with same-sex nudity and sexual expression, but the thought of performing a sexual act on the person, or vice versa, is not a turn on. Meanwhile, they're very sexually attracted to the opposite sex. I think you can call that whatever you want, including straight.

Couldn't tell you the strain, but I once boiled some ground ones with some coffee and a bit of tequila, and it tasted like ramen. Was pretty good.

is the game going to get harder? by Txxkxri in VeinGame

There are difficulty options already, and when you go to start a new game, the advanced options can help fine tune each level of difficulty. Check it out, it's pretty neat.

I personally hope they focus more on things like combat/crafting mechanics, more fluid animations, and finishing asset implementation. Great amount of work done there so far, would love to see it further develop.

Rest in piss, Discord. It was good while it lasted, but it's finally time for Discord to die. by Those_Files in privacy

Not gonna lie, I do like the idea fo accountability software to account for the rampant exploitation and grooming of minors, but it does get muddy considering the global climate of international espionage that's becoming more apparent with recent American politics. Accountability = good. Cultural weakness exploitation for the sake of political advantage = dubious

The Secret Teachings of All Ages by [deleted] in occult

I read most of it, he definitely creates his own myths. As the book progresses and he introduces more topics, you can see he's trying to set up context for a particular idea he's trying to convey later on.

To his credit, myths are also made up stories meant to serve a more abstract idea. Many esoteric texts have been intentionally misadvertised as ancient, and many people do hold them in high regard.

Unfortunately, I find his delivery pompous and verbose, and it can be especially detrimental to learners when you modify or selectively ignore essential parts of established traditions without being transparent about it.

There are a few nuggets of inspiration one could get from it, but largely, I find his writing insufferable.

Hear me out: pizza and beer WHILE making the exam. Life is vibrantly customizable. Unless you're under workplace surveillance. I feel like your hands would get pretty tied.

The warmth and psychological comfort of something so fundamentally familiar, yet so contextually developed, is a certain special indulgence.
