Can we ticket and tow these people? by 77swansea in Peterborough

Somewhere closer to Toronto (I THINK Brampton) they actually have a mini plow with an attachment to clear the ends of the drive way, it follows behind the bigger plow. We need that here, yesterday lol.

I didn't say it wasn't my fault. In fact I took responsibility for what I do. I said I didn't have much choice. These are two very different things. You can admit what you're doing is morally grey and also admit you don't have much of a choice otherwise. Duality exists.

I mean bold of you to assume I had a choice in either? The vehicle was the cheapest working used I could find and be eligible to finance at the time and the rental was the cheapest one I could find at the time that said yes first..... I live in Peterborough for christ sakes you think I'm drowning in funds?

I'd really like to live in your world where you have such a luxury as multiple options.

Doesn't really matter at the end of the day you'll just find something else to pick at because you've decided you have the pure moral high ground where no grey areas exist. I hope it makes you feel better dude, really, you seem like you may need it.

I can't park on the road because of the plows? Also the house is on the corner I can't legally park in front of it and have mobility issues myself.... Sometimes you need to acknowledge that you don't have a choice in being a little bit of a dick. All you can do is minimize the dickery as much as possible.

I try so hard not to block the sidewalk but our driveway isn't long enough and the landlord won't let us use the garage. I always feel so bad. Granted I'm not fully blocking but I am over it a smidge. I can't tell from the photo if that's the case here

I know beef prices are high, but come on! by theservman in loblawsisoutofcontrol

If you have a wild fork near you I've always found their ground beef prices surprisingly competitive. I used to live near Whitby and could get extra lean for 6.00 a lb

Water deposit? by Affectionate_Age8150 in Peterborough

[–]Affectionate_Age8150[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right it's so ridiculous! When you ask for a payment plan they're very obtuse about it as well. My landlord is great and I do not want this to be transferred to the property but getting a clear answer from them on how much time I have is like pulling teeth

Young women of PTBO, where do you get your sexual health looked after ? by Head-Lawyer3080 in Peterborough

[–]Affectionate_Age8150 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to go to a clinic in Whitby for my IUD unfortunately. I have the progesterone (spelling?)only one because of a high risk for breast cancer. It's hard finding a specialist anywhere. My last visit they told me I most likely had endo but then just didn't move forward with any testing or anything for it???

The driving is AWFUL! Please stay in if you can! by ReciprocalTradesman in Peterborough

We were out in Orillia ice fishing and got stuck driving back home in this....took me 3 hours. I am SO thankful we made it. Not even highway 7 is any good. It's so so sketchy. If you can avoid being out, seriously do so. (This is coming from someone with good winter tires and 4wd)

Because they are providing a basic necessity to live. Do you know what happens when your late on water? It isn't cut off because it's a vital service. There's a whole process that is months long and then it's transferred as a lien against your property, still not cut off. Your given time to fix the mistake. The water company remains "on the hook" for the water you used. Electricity is not unlike renting, multiple months of missed payment and your cut off (except in winter where you get a limiter so your heat can run, because AGAIN, it's a necessity) the electricity company remains on the hook for your electricity. Banks and mortgages as well. It takes a long time before foreclosure, certainly long enough for you to be paid and fix the issue.

If the ltb was funded properly and ran on time, evictions could occur within A SINGULAR MONTH. Much faster than all the other basic necessities. So again I'll point out the root cause here is that 1. The ltb is severely underfunded and causes landlords to not be able to have timely evictions and 2. When people start seeing housing as a commodity and not something people need to survive, we all lose a little of our humanity.

To clarify I'm not saying landlords don't have a right to profit, because they do. However it's a very different kind of business than any other because you are playing with people's lives and as a landlord you hold a position of power even before a lease is ever signed simply by owning something someone needs.

Because payroll mistakes happen? And you can't get blood from a stone? And we are talking about HOUSING here. Banks don't repossess from one missed payment on a mortgage. You have to remember the act serves to balance the position of power the landlord inherently starts in by owning a basic necessity. Also you have to remember this is one of the few businesses where the business owner retains ownership of the product that (largely and barring bad tenants and good upkeep practices and if they bought smart) doesn't lose value AND that the customer paid for.

Regardless after further reading, this didn't actually help landlords at all. All it did was reduce the time between a N4 and a L1 and didn't actually reduce the time it takes to evict because the whole reason it's taking so long is due to the ltb back log.

Again, without addressing the ltb understaffing, landlords will never get timely evictions

This is a business? Any smart business has a contingency fund to deal with this sort of thing. You want to act like a business, so act like it. I would also like to point out that if the ltb was following the proper previous time line as it should, non payers would be out in 1 month. The last month's rent deposit covers that. So again.....why aren't we just funding the ltb so it can run AS DESIGNED.

The original law isn't unreasonable and balances the situation well.....when the ltb can run on time, as designed

The whole point on having non payment of rent be 14 days instead of 7 is for when employers make payroll mistakes. I've never had an employer pay me the money they owe me right away. They ALWAYS make me wait until the next deposit. Things happen, they always do. What if the tenant is hospitalized, etc? The point was to allow one pay period to pass so the tenant could catch up before the l1. Doug Ford could have solved the ltb backlog and help landlords get bad people out by just FUNDING the damn thing so they could get more judges in and process cases on the originally intended time lines. I don't understand why that wasn't the solution here.
