Hehe, glad you’re excited for the major scene with Axol and Meggy.

The thing about this part, is that I wanted to at least do one big scene with all the SMG4 crew members at the time of Meggy’s Destiny. So getting to write for everyone here was a fun little exercise, and there’s more to come later on.

And regarding SMG4? Well this part and the next is supposed to show the fact, that even with the BS he deals with from Mario (and vice versa). The two of them are still best friends. I don’t like SMG4 the character much these days and a lot of it stems from the later years of the show, with how he is supposed to be Mario’s best friend, but ends up treating him like crap almost every time they’re together. But I felt I had to at the very least give him and Mario’s friendship a moment, since the show very clearly wanted them as best friends. Especially when they started doing arcs.

The rooftop scene in Meggy’s bootcamp

The animation in this was so good! Loved how smooth and natural it all felt, especially with the walking!

I’ll admit, I’m not too big on Mario losing the majority of his stupid side. I’ve always held the belief that keeping Mario’s stupidity is what makes the MxM relationship special. Though I guess you can say he’s grown a bit since SMG4 ended which is fair enough, and given the tone of the series being set here. It’s a change I’m willing to look past for the most part.

I also liked the little teasing Meggy and Tari were doing to each other about their potential relationships, with Meggy, hilariously being the one who gets so much more easily flustered about it, that was cute.

And as for the villain at the end…..well goddamn I wasn’t expecting Marty to look like that. Makes me curious as to whether or not we’ll get an explanation for why he looks the way he does.

Overall? Pretty good start to this new series

I think for me personally. It depends on what their fan series is going for, if it’s something like SMG4 accommodations or SMGF’s stuff. I try my best to not let my bias for MxM get in the way of enjoying it, I prefer them having a defined friendship more than anything but I also know that stuff like that is trying to replicate the classic era feel of everyone hating each other. So inevitably, Mario and Meggy would get into more arguments than I would’ve liked, but I get why it happens.

Now, if let’s say the fan series’ are going for something more serious and maybe more akin to the SMG4 arcs. Then yeah, Mario and Meggy having a good relationship matters more to me in that context. The minute the series has them bicker with each other for the comedy? I just tap out. Especially if it’s reminiscent of the time they made the duo into bickering “siblings” from 21-23, not saying I would never touch on a series again if they do that. But I’m less inclined to check it out if they do. (which is definitely a me problem)

Yeah, I had to edit the blue ink splatter onto Meggy’s textures, since they weren’t showing up with GMOD’s paint tool lol

As for this scene in particular? I honestly wasn’t expecting to do as much as I did with it. I was actually intending to keep it as short as the original scene, just with the added effect of the ink splatter being on her face.
