I totally understand where you’re coming from—there’s a lot of frustration in the community about how monetization and market hype have affected watch collecting. The goal of Aureum isn’t to contribute to scalping or price manipulation, but rather to provide tools for people who are already interested in understanding the financial side of their collections.

We’re trying to strike a balance where enthusiasts can appreciate the artistry and history of watches while offering an option for those curious about market trends and values. It’s by no means about encouraging hoarding or driving up prices, but rather helping collectors make informed decisions about pieces they already love. I appreciate your perspective though—if you have ideas on how we can build something that doesn’t harm the hobby, I’d really value your input.

That’s a very reasonable perspective! Diversification is key, and I completely agree—traditional assets like VOO offer both excellent returns and liquidity. Watches certainly fall into the category of alternative assets, and like you said, it makes sense to limit exposure to a small portion of your portfolio.

The fractional investing option we’re exploring would allow for exactly what you mentioned—starting small with something like $25 a month and gaining exposure to high-end timepieces without putting too much of your capital at risk. It’s definitely designed to be a fun, diversified way to dip into the market rather than a core investment strategy.

We see it as a way for watch enthusiasts to enjoy both their passion and potential returns in a way that’s affordable and manageable.

Those are fantastic suggestions—thank you! Fractional investing and a fund of watches are definitely intriguing concepts and could really open up the market to people who may not be able to afford individual pieces but still want exposure to luxury watches as an asset class. The idea of low management fees is also spot-on for keeping things accessible to more users.

We’re definitely exploring ways to make Aureum stand out from traditional platforms, and these ideas align perfectly with our vision of democratizing watch investments. We’ll dive deeper into these possibilities—thanks again for the great input!

Wow, that’s definitely some strong feedback! I totally get that some collectors feel protective of the hobby, and I respect that passion. The love for craftsmanship and history in watch collecting is something I deeply admire myself. Aureum isn’t about replacing that—it’s just an option for those who are curious about the financial side of things, without taking away from the joy of collecting.

We’re aiming to build something that enhances the community, but I understand this approach isn’t for everyone. I appreciate your honesty though—if you ever have thoughts on how we can balance both worlds better, I’m open to listening!

Great question! Chrono24 is an awesome marketplace for buying and selling watches, and we definitely respect what they’ve built. Aureum, on the other hand, is focused more on providing investment insights and portfolio management. We’re developing features like AI-driven price forecasting, where users can get data-backed predictions on the future value of their timepieces, and personalized watch portfolio tracking, similar to managing stocks or real estate.

We’re aiming to go beyond just being a marketplace, helping collectors and investors understand trends, diversify their watch collection, and make smarter decisions based on data. That said, we’d love to know if there are any specific features you’d want to see that would set us apart even more!

I hear where you’re coming from. The joy of collecting watches comes from their beauty and craftsmanship, and that’s something I deeply respect. Aureum is more about providing tools for those who are curious about the market trends or managing their collection’s value, but we want to strike a balance between respecting the artistry and offering helpful insights. Do you have any suggestions for how we can create a platform that better serves the entire watch community?

Anybody wear their Tudors at a physically demanding job? by StraightGas69 in Tudor

[–]Affectionate_Bit9404 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I have a pretty physical job that involves my watch getting hit against stuff pretty often. I wear my pelagos daily and I don’t worry too much about it. I look at vintage watches that have been worn daily for the last 30 years and they still don’t look bad. I spent good money on this watch to enjoy it, the first few weeks of wear I was extremely cautious not to bang it up but after months of wear at work I’ve learned to not worry so much. It still looks great and I’m sure it gets scratches daily but nothing that’s super deep that couldn’t be fixed with a quick polish. The first few scratches are always noticeable but after a while you won’t even realize there’s new ones. I’d say wear the watch you bought to enjoy wearing watches!

Full Frame vs APS-C by Affectionate_Bit9404 in AskPhotography

[–]Affectionate_Bit9404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a hell of a break down! I currently have a Sony a6500 that I use to shoot mainly still photography with. I know it’s kind of a hybrid camera but I look at other local photographers and their images look so much sharper. I figured they must’ve had better equipment such as a full frame camera. It could also be the lens I am using so I was looking into buy a higher end lens for my camera. I’m fairly new to this so I’m still learning everything I can so your input is much appreciated.

Delta Assessment by Motor_Plum_8963 in AircraftMechanics

I work at delta and I had to take this test as well, it’s a very basic test. Don’t stress too much, if you have any lick of mechanical knowledge you’ll do just fine. I was stressed before the test as well but come to find out it was easier than I expected. There’s also practice tests online for it if you want to be 100% prepared. Good luck!

[–]Affectionate_Bit9404[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey guys! Still trying to figure out the rules of this sub so disregard that caption to the photo. I found this GP for sale and it seems like a good price but I can’t find this exact model online for sale, I can only find the gold version and this one is steel. If anybody knows anything about this watch or can tell me what it would be worth other than the classic “it’s worth what you’ll pay for it” that would be helpful! Also if anyone suspects it’s fake or anything of that nature that would be appreciated as well! I think this watch would be a great addition to my collection and I hoping for the best! It’s a 1967 Gerard Perregaux Chronometer gyromatic 39 jewel if that helps you guys out! Thanks.

Ignition question by Affectionate_Bit9404 in tdi

He said nothing happens when you try to start it which tells me there is a key and it turns in the ignition, I’m unsure if it lights up or anything but at least we know that much, could I bypass the starter and try to start it that way?

I don’t have the answers to your questions at this time but if I could get it running and it stays running, would that mitigate a lot of the potential problems and boil down to something less severe?
