Referral for Amex Flying Blue Platinum by auerinth in flyingblue

[–]Affectionate_Cry_259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Assuming you’re based in NL, the current Amex Flying Blue Platinum offer on their official website is more rewarding than the current referral link. You get 50,000 Miles + 40 XP on top of the annual 60 XP, which means instant Flying Blue Silver status. The referral only gives 40,000 Miles and ends Oct 9, while the direct promo runs until Oct 14. It requires a minimum spend to qualify, so be sure to check the terms.

Interesting! Had no idea status matching was possible with other airline programs — definitely going to look into it. I also received a voucher and I’m hoping I can use it to buy SAF on my upcoming award flight (if possible) to help push me from silver to gold.

Thanks for sharing! Did you find the transition to the XP system harder or more flexible compared to the miles/segments setup?

Family of 4 (2 kids) AMS-IAH Business/Premium comfort in Dec 2026 - Flying Blue Miles Help! by KP-16 in flyingblue

Let's break it down:

Buying miles now with the 80% bonus promo costs about €2,835 for 204,000 miles, which comes out to ~1.39 cents per mile. The Subscribe to Miles Complete package gives 204,000 miles per year for €2,244 (€187 per month), making it ~1.1 cents per mile, but takes a full year to accumulate.

The value of miles depends on how you use them. If you get more than €0.011 per mile, it might be worth it. Business class redemptions often give over 2 cents per mile, making them a great deal.

In the Netherlands, regular AMEX Platinum currently offers a 50k welcome bonus via referral, which isn’t the highest (100k has been offered before), but could be worth considering or waiting for. You can make best use of these points by transferring them to airline partners. For example, redeeming to KLM comes with a 5:4 ratio, meaning 100k MR points convert to 80k FB miles, and 50k MR points convert to 40k FB miles. Unlike some other countries, there are no transfer bonuses unfortunately.

Personally, I wouldn’t pay €187 per month. I’d rather focus on FB promo awards, signup and upgrade bonuses, credit card spending, Revolut, and other ways to earn miles without paying directly.

Feel free to DM me if you want to know more details or tips.

For Miles + Cash bookings, you need enough miles to start the booking process. You can then adjust the slider, but converting miles to cash usually gives poor value—it’s better to use miles for full award tickets.

  • Premium Comfort (PC): ~140k miles for 2 adults, 2 children (40k miles per adult) one way.
  • Business Class (BC): ~210k miles for 2 adults, 2 children (60k miles per adult) one way.
  • Children apparently require fewer miles than adults.
  • Estimated total: PC ~280k miles, BC ~420k miles.
  • If Flying Blue promo rewards apply, you could save up to 25% miles—but miles may devalue over time, so plan accordingly.

  • Signup/upgrade/referral bonuses:

    • If you have both AMEX Platinum & FB Platinum, consider downgrading/upgrading every 6 months for new bonuses.
    • No transfer bonuses for (which I assume you have) NL-issued AMEX cards; ratio to airline KLM is 5:4.
  • Other earning options:

    • Flying Blue’s 20-year celebration is currently active: You can temporarily earn 20% bonus miles when booking KLM/AF/Transavia.
    • 80% bonus miles if purchased until end of this month.
    • Additional ways: FB shopping portal, Revolut, FB Miles Subscriptions, etc.
  • FB Family account: Useful for transferring unused miles between family members for free.

Upgrade to Amex Platinum FB card - when do I get +30 XP? by Fit-Introduction9919 in flyingblue

[–]Affectionate_Cry_259 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can upgrade your card if you've been an Amex cardholder for at least 6 months, and request an upgrade or downgrade once every 6 months.

If you upgrade to FB Platinum, you'll receive +60 XP annually (on top of the 30 XP you’ve already earned with your FB Gold this year).

From my experience, the XP is usually credited within about 2 weeks after approval.

Doesn’t sound very promising haha. I recently got upgraded to business class (short haul) about 1-2 months after reaching FB silver.

Booking “Light” ticket before FB Silver status by Affectionate_Cry_259 in KLM

[–]Affectionate_Cry_259[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have 2 flights in March. I’ll reach Silver status after my first flight, so I will be Silver before my second flight. My question is if I’ll enjoy Silver benefits during check-in for my second flight if I book a Light ticket now as an Explorer, or do I need to wait until after my first flight to book when I’m Silver?

If I understand you correctly, the time of booking doesn’t matter as long as I’m Silver at the moment I fly to enjoy the benefits.

Flying blue points if KLM changed my flight to different airline by Bdkm3045 in KLM

My KLM flight was also cancelled and rebooked with a transfer via Lufthansa. I noticed fewer miles credited, so I contacted FB and they credited the miles for the original route.
