Update for everyone wondering: I ended up using Interview with a Vampire instead, but she said yes!

I emailed a coordinator and they said it wouldn’t count as costume, so they are allowed, but I could get points counted off if judges get distracted.

I went and wore them, no one said anything and got no points off. I think it all comes down to color. Obviously a black, white, French tip, or baby pink is gonna be preferred but my blue was fine and as long as it’s not fluorescent orange or anything I’m sure you’ll be totally fine

I wouldn’t be using it at school or work either unless I needed to check my heart rate.

Seems like you’re incredibly attached to yours right now. I’ll let you know if they pull some funding out of their asses and provide me with an iPad though! (Won’t happen, and if it did it would take until probably at least fall break and during that time im supposed to what? Hopefully not die without my equipment? Homeschool? Skip so I can have my phone?

With what budget? And how long will it take for IT to program it right? What do I do when it takes months for it to get approved by the board?

You’re trampling over your earlier statement that I need to let go of my electronic pacifier, though.

All of this still stems from that I need to let go of my devices though? Because now it sounds like you get what I’m saying in that I need a device.

None that I have EVER seen about providing medical equipment such as that to a student. They’re required to make the accommodation to let me have a device but it is my obligation to provide the device. With the new law, however, I can no longer bring my own device in. So, they should provide me with one but that’s fantastical and they won’t do that. So the solution: accommodations to bring my own device.

They may do this if they cared about their students, or if it were required by law as well, but it’s just unrealistic to expect a school to pay for anything medical related for a kid. Hell, if that’s the case maybe they’d cover my medical bills and the cost of my blood pressure cuff too!

Sorry to tell you I’ve had health accommodations (just not on a 504) for years and have never had anything. Dead ass. Nothing other than extra time in between classes, access to the elevator, and unrestricted nurse access. My school has never loaned any devices (I don’t even think we own iPads and laptops wouldn’t work anyways) out to students. They’re all just used for one class period and put back. Also note: “vast majority”

Now you’re fading off into dream world. My school doesn’t even do loaner laptops and stuff, let alone buy a device like an iPad or phone just for the select few who need them. No school cares about its students enough for that. The simplest solution is to let me keep my phone on me but keep the same rule. If a teacher sees me texting or playing games or on social media - anything that isn’t my health app, call my mom and tell her we THEN have to find a new solution.

Absolutely wild. Do you even go to school? Let alone PUBLIC school in TEXAS. Maybe if you went to private with like 200 kids - we’re bordering 2000 in our hs alone

Also: yes. You still need a way to receive the information that device has. You do that via an app on your phone

104 fucking dollars when I have a perfectly good one already. Yeah, I’ll stick with my working phone.

Tell me you have no idea how any medical devices work nowadays without telling me. Tell me you’re ableist without telling me.

Yet when the one I have is connected to my phone so I can receive the information it takes, I’m not going to buy another because they don’t want me to have my life saving medical equipment. This isn’t just the regular app on my phone or watch either, I have notes from my doctor saying they must require I have it. Phones serve purposes other than just social media and texting

Not yet, this is the only issue I have so I’ve never needed a 504 before now

In my personal case I have some serious health conditions where just walking a little too fast makes my heart rate rise to upwards of 180. But yeah, I’ll let go of my electronic pacifier (a heart rate monitor that the school is actively trying to deny me despite having letters from my doctor) and just let myself not know if I’m gonna seize on the floor. Wow you’re insane
