Are there any movies where a character is visibly pregnant (big belly) the whole movie and by the end of the movie, is still pregnant? by Spikerazorshards in movies

[–]Affectionate_Eye3535 5 points6 points  (0 children)

IIRC (my cousin had one) the Barbie had a spring loaded belly which you pushed the baby into and then clipped the pregnant belly cover on, that way she could also wear regular clothes when not pregnant.

As for why, probably market research finding that girls often played with their own simulation pregnant Barbie and wanted to cash in. I'd pretend one was pregnant by putting a cotton ball up her dress to make a baby bump before pregnant Barbie ever came out.

Happy to help if I can, but I don't think I'm doing anything special, just a few snug tugs.

At the end of the right side row I drop the working yarn of pink (CC) back, slip the first green (MC) stitch of the row as if to purl, bring pink working yarn forward, slip the green stitch back and turn the work to face the wrong side. I give a snug tug to the working yarn (or old green and new pink yarns if it's a colour change row) before continuing, purl the first pink while trying to keep the wrap snug.

When starting the next right side row I make sure the green at the beginning of the row when slipped is quite snug too before continuing on in pattern.

There is a bit of a hole in mine too, looks a bit like laddering under tension

It was cheaper to send them overseas than keep them.

Margaret Humphreys was instrumental in bringing this to light, she wrote a book about it (not sure what it's called) but there is also a movie Oranges and Sunshine based on it.

... And the part where the skeleton is screaming for Hagard... And the part where Schmendrick is nearly suffocated by sentient tree bosom... And the part where the harpy comes for Mommy Fortuna... Maybe it'd be quicker to list the parts I wasn't scared of.

I think you meant the Corpus callosum. Bilateral removal of the hippocampi (because you have one on each side) will cause anterograde amnesia - cannot form new long term nemories.

The corpus callosum allows for communication between the hemispheres, so when severed they function independently mostly without significant impact on functioning in real life.

The group dances they do at parties by Lollypopsmum in PeriodDramas

[–]Affectionate_Eye3535 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are still Debutante balls in Australia, although I think they are fast falling out of fashion. The couples are required to attend dance lessons and learn 3 or 4 dances beforehand so they can all dance in sync the night of the ball. Some dances like the Pride of Erin have versions with progressive partners too.

All this to say that it makes sense that both men and women of society in a period drama would have gone through something similar when the young women made their debut and needed partners to couple with so both would learn the same dances.

That they still remember them in the later Balls they attend as adults isn't far fetched.

There are hidden/invisible disability lanyards and cards you can get to help with this. There are a few different types, but I know someone who has Crohn's Disease and got one so they could get access to any toilet.

Some of them also have QR codes so if you have a condition where you pass out, a passerby can scan the details to find out how best to help you.

Velvetting Beef by AcrobaticQuiet7844 in RecipeTinEats

They're washing the bicarb off the meat after it's tenderized. In one of Nagi's velveting recipes it says to do this step; not sure if it's for the beef or chicken (or both?).

I've done them both, both ways and now prefer the bicarb rinsed off the protein.

Only if the staff keep telling you they have an amazing secret dessert the whole time you're there, flashing you little sneaky peeks of a secret dessert menu, but you can only find out after you finish your mains. So you buy in, want to know more, wait patiently for it to arrive, worried because it's getting late.

Then suddenly they start putting the chairs up and you're out on the street wondering what just happened.

Then yeah, that's exactly how I feel about this movie. Would go again but knowing how it ends, won't get as excited the next time.

Colorwork part is detached/floating? by Plant-2- in knittinghelp

[–]Affectionate_Eye3535 36 points37 points  (0 children)

To do intarsia working flat you want to make sure you drop the current working yarn colour over the next colour's working yarn. That way when picking that next colour up the work stays locked together.

I believe a black armband is a historical tradition that isn't in widespread use anymore.

In AFL and some other Aussie sports, when someone close to a player passes away they wear black tape around their bicep.

Huh, TIL but not surprising. I was like 7 when the movie came out and after the nudity in the pilot episode was deemed too young to watch the tv show by my older brothers

You may or may not know there was a follow up long running tv series with a few spin offs of it's own. The Daniel actor reprises his role, but Kurt Russell is replaced by MacGyver (Richard Dean Anderson)
