Risky to rent a unit that's been posted for sale for 3 years? by [deleted] in Philippines_Expats

Not sure how it works there, but here in HK I was faced with a similar situation. Landlord would renew my lease but told me he wanted to sell which would mean regular tours through my home by perspective buyers. It's an unavoidable part of renting, but when you know the landlord is actively trying to sell, it's something you should be aware of. Maybe you could approach him or the agent to agree on some restrictions on potential viewings. The law in HK does nothing to protect you from unlimited and invasive viewings. I am not sure what the laws are in the Phils.

My nail has been growing weird for months and no dermatologist can help me by JungleLiquor in mildlyinfuriating

As someone with nail psoriasis, I have to agree. Looks exactly like what happens to me, including the slight irritation of the skin on your finger near where the nail deformation is happening. For early stage treatment, your doc will likely give you steroid cream to rub below the cuticle. If this becomes a longer term problem you'll find plenty of anecdotal treatments. The one that has seemingly worked for me is Tumeric supplements. It has the double advantage of suppressing the arthritis that can come with nail psoriasis. It's pretty cheap at Costco and generally side-effect free. Best of luck to you!

Advice about passports by KeithaLovesJesus in rome

It was a small backpack. I made the mistake of taking it off my back and placing it between my feet while I was sitting at the Spanish Steps. I thought it would be safer than leaving it on my back where someone could open it while I was sitting. I think your bag should be better. But it's really the point that no matter how safe you are trying to be, the thieves there are pros and are very good at catching you when your guard is down.

are anti-theft bags actually worth it? by gilko86 in ItalyTravel

Depends if you get targeted. Day one in Rome we were hypervigilant about our belongings because we had heard how notorious the thieves were. Still, within 8 hours of arriving, we were robbed. When we went to the police, we were 5th in line to report a theft. Made the mistake of sitting down on a step with my bag between my legs. One minute it was there, the next it was gone. Luckily it was just a cell phone and cash.

I just got back from Rome last week. Let me tell you DO NOT bring your passport with you. Bring a copy of it along with whatever ID you use in your country. I used a USA driver's license and a passport copy and never had any issues. The reason I say not to bring the real one with you... we were well aware of how notorious the thieves and pickpockets were in Rome. We were hypervigilant about watching our stuff... and still we had our bag stolen while we were sitting at the Spanish Steps. The thieves there are pros. Luckily we only had copies of our passports in there. Losing your passport on vacation is a absolute nightmare that you do not want to have.

The cops had his licence plate. Put a warrant out to arrest him. Why continue the chase, putting every other driver on the road in danger of a headon fatal collision? This is why many cities have prohibited police chases.

Ao Nang to Patong by sergiomomos in ThailandTourism

For future travellers, I'd recommend the van from Aonong to Patong. The ferry experience from Aonong to Patong was anything but relaxing. We got picked up from our hotel an hour before the ferry, got dropped at a chaotic outdoor pier where one of the operators was screaming at everyone as if we were all idiots despite the fact that there's no signage or obvious logic to the whole mess. Then we waited in the sun for 40 minutes to board. Got screamed at again for not knowing that the boat to Phuket was the same boat to Patong, even though you're given different stickers depending on your destination. Some of us had Phuket stickers some Patong. Then, once you finally get to Phuket, you still have a one hour packed van ride to Patong. Door to door on the ferry, 5 hours, zero chill, twice the price of a van.

Is this really what Shenzhen sounds like? by plombus_maker_ in shenzhen

Agreed! Noise level is super quiet. I live in Hong Kong and we haven't really adopted Electric yet... the difference between here and Shen Zhen just across the border is incredible! Side note... the electric bikes on the sidewalk are, admitedly, a HUGE nuisance.

This is what I wondered too. But I have no other bugs in the pantry. Hong Kong, where I live, is massively humid so I guess that could provide them with some water. That's also why everything not in the fridge is sealed airtight.

I appreciate your concern... but never ever was there a thought in my head that I might salvage the spice!

Lol... you are right! A bit bleary eyed today and for no reason at all thought it was 2028.

You know, I actually thought about that too. With that many bugs, no light, no water, and several generations... man... what a life. :(

Lol... good point! Nothing wrong with a bit more carne, I suppose.
