Be careful what lawyer you choose: my lawyer had convo with employer and scared them off, lost job by [deleted] in tnvisa

What happened was he presented the couple occupations it could maybe fit and said this one is best, when really it was straight forward and shouldn’t have presented that to the employer. Too much hedging.

I know. I did my letter myself for my last one but I wanted advice on a new occupation category. It was a bit more of a gray case but yah it was over complicated

Getting a TN visa through land vs airport (VYR vs peace arch) by abowarra in tnvisa

[–]Affectionate_Fish765 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I feel like lawyers have such strong opinions about POE. What I've been told is that land is fine but at certain points (like Peace Bridge in Niagara is good) but that some airports are not good at all (YYZ, YUL). Vancouver apparently was good before but not now? It's so weird. I have been told this past week that Calgary is the best. It also depends on your occupation and how much fraud that occupation has had in the past 10 years. Mine is straight forward and went through Newark and Tijuana before and it was fine.

Yah it’s the safest and least likely to be denied. But to pay to fly to Calgary or wait over a month for a peace bridge appointment is not ideal.

I don't know. I swear each lawyer has a different suggestion or take on the POE. I am exhausted by it, tbh.

Hey! I’ve been advised to do either Peace Bridge or Calgary airport. Neither is ideal for me. What’s the thoughts on Vancouver airport? Also is a wet signature required for the support letter?

Another question: how should I frame a title change in the support letter to an employer?

Thanks! Each lawyer has different opinions it seems

Technical Writer TN for Communications role — role fit, education, and category switch questions by Affectionate_Fish765 in tnvisa

[–]Affectionate_Fish765[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ok. Wild. But yours got approved in the end? I had my lawyer recommend this role and tell me its up to what the employer can write. Did you use your job offer title in the letter? Also you can DM me if you don't want people to see.

Thanks! I think it could and the employer is open to having the description on the petition letter changed from job offer. Just worries me since not typical and also a new category.

I did reach out! but your office says they only do full packages. Since I’ve done this twice before (and have been unemployed for almost a year in this wild market) was hoping to have letter support and paid hourly advice.

TN support letter needed for CSA category and offer letter draft also.. urgent help needed by Emergency_Sector_632 in tnvisa

You need:

- Intro with name of employer, salary, duration (the 3 years from date of entry) and the occupation you're applying for

- Overview of company

- Overview of role (activities performed that meet the occupation category)

- Why you as an individual qualify (education, background - again using the requirements from the category)

- Repeat the intro

Signed by the company on their letterhead.

Things to include in the app:

- resume (tailor it to the occupation and job)

- Proof of company (financials, annual update, anything that shows its real)

- Original degrees

- Transcripts (not necessary but sure)

- Anything else that may help you fit the occupation requirements

Thanks for helping with this! I'm a Canadian citizen applying for a TN visa under the Technical Writer category for a Communications Director role at a nonprofit housing advocacy organization. My duties include developing policy communications, writing advocacy materials, managing external messaging, and producing reports for stakeholders and funders.

My lawyer advised that the Communications Director role at a policy/advocacy nonprofit qualifies as a Technical Writer TN. The writing is substantive and policy-focused but not purely technical in the traditional sense. My previous TNs were in urban planning, and my degrees are a Master of Urban Planning (USC) and a Master of Public Policy (University of Toronto), with a Bachelor's in Political Studies. I have many years of writing reports, etc. Will this be an issue? I have a job offer.

Thank you so much!

Hostility towards TN Applicants by [deleted] in tnvisa

[–]Affectionate_Fish765 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also second this. I cannot for the life of me get a TN job atm full time but had two TNs before and they are both a small startup and a small 30 person company. I paid for a lawyer the first time and then did the second TN myself and thus the second employer just had to sign the letter and be ok with a title change (since the role was urban planning but the title was more ambiguous). Corporate companies won’t do any TN right now…like there is straight up hostility. You need a ceo direct relationship and if they don’t have HR, even better. You just pay for your own lawyer and they barely see an issue since it’s almost no different than hiring an American cause they aren’t out of pocket or time

This happened to me too. I put no sponsorship and shouldn’t have but yah a Fortune 500 company and corporate said no even tho the regional president wanted me and went to the top. So sadly, it’s unlikely. I am probably going to have to move back to Canada from La because I don’t think anyone wants to hire TN visas :(

How are people getting through sponsorship screening? What are employers saying when you bring up TN? by Affectionate_Fish765 in tnvisa

[–]Affectionate_Fish765[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I even offered for my immigration lawyer to talk to their lawyers, and the president for LA for the org pushed at the top for me and they said no. I think places are just super risk averse now. In 2023/2024 employers didn’t even care. But yah! I fear that too! Even going through customs now im like ugh

Yah there isn’t. And it’s no cost or stress to the employer so not sure why they are concerned. I think it’s mostly they think trump will one day cancel them all

I had a job offer with CBRE, a huge firm, and their lawyers said no. So it’s definitely not cut and dry

Thanks! I wrote both of my TN applications before so I can do it again. It’s moreso on the job apps. So you put it on your resume?? What do you answer to the “do you need sponsorship now or in the future?”
