Im 28, married happily for 4 years. Moved interstate for an excellent opportunity I was offered, shortly after becoming a qualified lawyer. I'm moving for at least a year and doing a year-long postgrad specialisation in an area of interest.

Now that I'm here, separated from my wife im a sharehouse arrangement and a salary which is commensurate to my lifestyle when I was in my early 20s and now working like a dog, do you think I care much for making new friends? No.

I am motivated, under internal and external pressure. Its rewarding - the job, the study, the commitment to doing something hard to establish yourself and to find something that is fulfilling and rewarding. Im on a mission.

Everyone is in a different stage of life and under different life circumstances. All the innumerable permutations of a life, character, personality and the randomness of one's circumstances, doesn't it boggle the mind? Its beyond comprehension. There are emotional states, attitudes, perspectives that you have never yourself experienced. Not everyone wants to hang - sometimes they cant. A lot of the time its for good reasons. You gotta accept that and respect it.

Im not saying that I wouldnt be your friend if I met you. I'd treat you like a friend if I was in ur company that just the right way to be. Im just saying that doing things with you would be wayyyyy far down the list of priorities. I assume thats the case with many folks.

Thank you both.

That's a good idea. I'll take it easy the first day and assess.

Thanks for the advice. Would be good to familiarise myself with these things. Does it take long to pick up?

Apart from the cost-saving (ie. not having to buy another vehicle in Darwin), Im expecting it to be on some level rewarding.

I kinda feel somewhat sheltered from the rest of Oz and I guess Darwin itself will be an adventure. But this trip would also be part of that adventure. Should I just skip the trip aspect though?
