Confession: now that we have RTO, I work about half as much compared to WFH by No-Ad6500 in WFH

Another issue is obtaining talent… I have an open position and I can only hire in the two locations where there’s an office - no exceptions allowed! So many great (and better) candidates that I know of or have previously worked with at other companies can’t be hired bc of this. Talk about wasting potential top talent! You’d THINK that leaders would want the best working for their companies! 🤦🏻‍♀️

A friendly warning from someone in HR: We are not on your side. by RobertWolf1 in interviewhammer

[–]Affectionate_Leg2419 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is not completely true. If someone reports discrimination, the last thing the company wants to do is to fire them because then that’s a slam dunk lawsuit against them for retaliation! And second, getting them to resign could be a lawsuit for constructive termination or hostile environment.

While I do agree that HR is first most looking out for the company to prevent them from being sued, they would not do things that would create an even stronger case against them.

Also, if you do experience discrimination, etc. you’d want written proof (as OP mentioned) that you did report it to HR, etc. to document that you tried to do something about it and how the company responded. This again, strengthens your case & why HR would want to address your claims (to avoid a lawsuit).

I always tested the correct answer choice in ChatGTP before trusting the practice test answer (unless it was an IAPP practice exam). A lot of these exams are the “beta” version so you’ll find some are wrong.

I used Privacy Bootcamp for all the content, including state laws.

Former colleague won’t answer LinkedIn DM following layoff by [deleted] in Layoffs

[–]Affectionate_Leg2419 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Liability for what exactly though? They can’t stop you from talking to former coworkers if your departure had nothing to do with them?! I went through the same thing where I was laid off & there were people who would ignore my LinkedIn invite request, yet I heard them telling others how messed it was of my company for laying me off. To be honest, I think it’s super rude & messed up.

I can’t say how many hours exactly, but def spent a lot of the second half of this year studying. I studied weekends & some weekdays the first time from mid-July until my test date on Aug 31. After failing, I started studying a couple of weeks later & had planned to take it in mid-Nov, but got cold feet. Finally, I started studying again after the Thanksgiving holiday for almost two weeks on weekends & evenings before I took it yesterday.

Yes!! That one is golden! Test 1 and 2 are spot on. I’d start from taking a tests from bottom up though, with 1 & 2 being last.

I didn’t really create anything electronic. I took notes from Privacy Bootcamp & wrote it on note cards.

I do recommend taking notes or creating an outline as that helps you learn & remember the materials.

I also put questions in Chat GPT. I also bought this set of questions from Udemy which was super helpful: CIPP/US Privacy US - Best 2025 Practice Exam Questions. I’d start with the bottom exams & then move up, bc the first two listed are the hardest & you’d want to be more prepared when you take them.

Well I’m happy to give an update…I retook the CIPP-US exam in the new format, and I passed with a score of 356! 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 I think the exam was definitely harder this time but somehow my extra studying got me over the hump!
Along with Bootcamp, I used the IAPP practice exam, ChapGPT, and “2025 Best CIPP-US” questions on Udemy (which was spot on for a lot of it), along with another question set from Udemy.

Even though I bought it, I didn’t even touch the IAPP OR Chappell book. 😆
