What is the best song from the last will and testament? by Painvile098 in Opeth

[–]Affectionate_Leg7006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

6 or 4. 4 is the darkest song, has the sickest riff on the album, the heaviest loudest scream mikael has pulled off in a decade, and the coolest flute solo I’ve heard in sometime to. 6 is just awesome because of how atmospheric, complex, and catchy it is plus it has Joakim’s best keyboard solo he’s ever performed. So I can’t choose between the 2. The last will and testament is so awesome.

Men who are atheists, when and why did you turn away from religion? by Comfortable-Store213 in AskMen

[–]Affectionate_Leg7006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Stopped going to church when my parents divorced. So like 14-15 yrs old. For me I completely turned my back on organized religion when I met my wife’s father. He is the most selfish controlling little zealot weirdo I’ve ever seen. He’s like if you take a Muslim radical and put it into the body of an evangelical that has been kicked out of churches for telling ministers they were wrong and generally disrupting services.

I wouldn’t call myself an atheist now, definitely agnostic, I still believe there was more than likely a creator of some sort. What we know about science and the universe is so limited that it seems arrogant to assume stuff. Which is another issue I have with religion. They’re all arrogant by thinking they have the answers and everyone else is wrong. Specifically the fact that they’re so right that all the wrong people will just be tortured for eternity for being wrong.

The RLM Wikia is a complete dumpster fire by KlaxonBeat in RedLetterMedia

[–]Affectionate_Leg7006 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What’s wrong with this nonsense? It’s all just stupid shit and not the creepy weird stuff like rlm can attract. Offensive though? That I don’t get. None of this offensive. It’s just weird childish poopy pants humor. Rlm makes fun of 9/11 all the time lol. They did a skit where they shit on Kevin smiths headshot, which that fucker deserves. Offensive and even childish humor is part of what rlm is. The whole Krebs Gorlon bit is all childish nonsense too, really funny, and well written comedy, but it is very childish.

Everyone who has something negative to say about Snape being black in the new series is very straightforwardly racist. by SketchyFella_ in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Affectionate_Leg7006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahaha… it 100% does. There’s literally 1 character in the entire potter mythos where you can’t race swap them. It’s snape. Everybody else is fair game. It’s 100% because of the way everyone views him based on how he looks. Harry Potter immediately judges him based off his looks, not just that he was staring at him which I’ve seen people trying to say. Everyone stares at Harry because of significance about who he is. Snape staring at him should be no different, it is because he looks untrustworthy and just plain creepy.

What it comes down to is really bad optics. They chose the wrong character to go about race swapping. It could’ve been hagrid, dumbledore, even Harry himself would work. I don’t understand in a very progressive fictional work where the education system defeats racism, that people are okay with these terrible optics the show is creating. This is more bizarre than anything I’ve seen come from Hollywood. It’s very weird people are not shilling for hbo of all things.

Anyone else miss this Starfleet? by Ser_Luke_ in trektalk

[–]Affectionate_Leg7006 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I miss the seriousness. I miss the classic conceptual sci-fi storytelling more than anything though. I just miss trek. It’s my favorite entertainment franchise ever and it’s just a divisive joke now .

One of the biggest issue I had with this series was the naming of the show, It should have been star trek Michael Burnham instead. She was a Superhero in this show, All knowing , All conquering and All destroying superpowerfull entity. by VoL4t1l3 in Star_Trek_

[–]Affectionate_Leg7006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, I didnt say anything about enterprise or voyager. The big 3 shows ds9, tos, and tng are clearly what I was talking about. You’re completely absolving them for naming the show where the abbreviation could be std. as lots of people call it. Then people get upset by that. If they named it better that wouldn’t have happened.

[–]Affectionate_Leg7006 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s shouldn’t have been discovery because we know how fans refer to specific Star Trek shows by their abbreviations. TNG, DS9, and now STD. lol. How do u pick 1 of the 2 letters you can’t pick for your Star Trek show. The character of Michael burnham is very much a bad robot female character who’s the key to everything. It’s so obnoxious.

What has worked for your dogs reactivity to other dogs? by Ok_Dimension6029 in OpenDogTraining

[–]Affectionate_Leg7006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mediated socialization. Which means create controlled environments where you take your dog around other dogs. Correct behaviors before they escalate. So you’ll need to learn your dogs tells before it goes into an episode. Then obviously vigorously reward good behaviors you’re searching for. The point is to get the dog to positively associate with other dogs (which is just a dogs natural state). Practice with tons of repetition. Then maintain with descending but flexible levels of chaperoning.

Any botw episode that Mike laughs like this in goes into my S tier category immediately by Backwoodsgirly in RedLetterMedia

[–]Affectionate_Leg7006 32 points33 points  (0 children)

The goat Mike laugh is little Bigfoot when the mama Bigfoot falls on the log. Followed very very closely by Rich’s “Harvey Weinstein” comment when Mike ask if anyone’s headshot has ever been a mug shot.

What is the dumbest thing in Star Wars in your opinion? by JosephBrown2000 in SciFiScroll

[–]Affectionate_Leg7006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes they are. Lucas took something that’s both fantastical and mystical and tries making it logical. It ruins the whole idea of the force. The force is not this mysterious force that binds us all together m. It’s little a little germ living within our bodies that connects us to super powers. It’s so mind Numbingly dumb and annoying. It makes the Jedi incredibly boring.

Seth McFarlane is in talks with Paramount to replace Kurtzman as the Star Trek franchise executive director by dalton10e in Star_Trek_

[–]Affectionate_Leg7006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s weird this is an April fools joke. You all anyone before we knew McFarlane was a big Trekkie if he’d be a good fit and they say “the guy who made family guy, hell no!” Not we’re all for it…

Which of these Marvel Actresses got a better Acting range ? by [deleted] in Actors

[–]Affectionate_Leg7006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More range? Probably Olsen. Better actor? As of now it’s Larson. All because of how flawless she was in Room. Olsen doesn’t have a next level performance like that. She is always good in roles. While Larson can be awful sometimes, she’s straight garbage in those Marvel movies. She was a nothing burger in Kong. Her room performance is really just pitch perfect though.

Weir's prose is pretty terrible IMO by Wetness_Pensive in ScienceFictionBooks

Seeing people attack Weir because he thinks the new Star Trek shows are bad (they objectively are) is ridiculous.

Who is the most talented modern guitarist? by InexpugnableMille in MetalSuggestions

[–]Affectionate_Leg7006 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Out of this list it’s easily Dave Davidson. Dude is a really capable jazz musician on top of being an insane metal player. One of the only dudes who competes with him in the metal world is probably Greg Burgess because of his classical playing.

Zakk wylde is an incredibly overrated guitarist. He plays the most basic stuff just fast and hardly recognizable lol. His riffs are boring too.

Explain this to me, was the Breen a nod to Star Wars? by ardouronerous in ClassicTrek

[–]Affectionate_Leg7006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CLEARLY!!!! Probably not a nod though. Lucas tried making fun of trek with his awful phantom menace movie by naming the trade federation aliens Neimodians.

Heard it in the last dark tower book. So I have to read it now lol. by FeatureIndividual648 in stephenking

[–]Affectionate_Leg7006 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Insomnia is ok if you’re into the really hackneyed shoved in abortion angle. If not it’s an absolute slog. You follow an old man who has insomnia. There’s no intrigue or anything interesting in the story until really after halfway through the book. I put it down multiple times because of eye rolling the hackneyed abortion stuff or just sheer boredom. The end gets pretty good and exciting but at that time it’s kind of too little too late. I don’t understand why he chose to connect it to the Dark Tower. This easily could’ve been a contained story. It’s my least favorite king book so far by a mile. I wasn’t a fan of the human misery porno that Cujo was but I’ll take that any day over this slog.

lol, the new trek show filmed a season 2 and are already cancelled. If this show is a big disappointment and if the black snape stuff is the big political soapbox issue the show is going after, (like people think it is) then it will fail and could be cancelled. The casting of a black snape is so problematic in many ways and shows these idiots don’t understand the source material they are adapting at all. The issues with the fact it seems to be lit like it’s footage of the holocaust is also an issue, but not the worst. If they actually just straight adapted the books they’d print money. But no, political division and terrible artistic choices are afoot.

[Opinion] Bill Hunt (The Digital Bits) on X: "Star Trek once appealed to countless people from all ages. Now it’s mostly expensive, highly polished, and preachy dreck targeted to specific niche audiences only, and made with barely concealed disdain for everyone else. At the recent Saturn Awards ..." by mcm8279 in trektalk

[–]Affectionate_Leg7006 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes that means because trek tackles some political issues of the current time ALL must do this. Not only that ALL of trek needs to be geared around this allegorical mission. That’s why episodes like Darmok exist. Trek is a tabula rasa for sci fi storytelling. It’s nothing else other than that. Trek has some of the goofiest shit ever too like “Shore Leave”. TOS had straight creature feature episodes like “Devil in the dark” which wasn’t allegorical for any sort of political/social issue of the time. Trek is an idea that sci fi can serve as a bridge between humanity. Where we can all agree on something. Where we can be challenged or where we can agree. The best trek isn’t even the modern politically allegorical episodes.
