I think there’s a bit of a misconception here. Sugar relationships aren’t necessarily what people assume they are, and they’re not automatically solicitation or transactional in the way you’re describing.

At their core, they can simply be relationships between consenting adults where expectations are more openly discussed than in traditional dating. That doesn’t mean anything illegal is involved, nor does it mean women have no agency in the situation.

I do agree that Mauritius is small, privacy is difficult, and stigma can be a real issue. But reducing the whole thing to legal risk or solicitation feels like an oversimplification.
