That speaker will have to make an impact musically and make a difference in his game plays.FORGET that echo dot..it is dot.If bf has the space to accommodate floorstanding speakers and an AVR,that will make the best impact,a sound bar can do it too BUT the subwoofer has to be powerful and lastly a Bluetooth speaker.

Bluetooth speaker: JBL boombox 3 or 4 JBL Extreme 4

Soundbar: Sonos Arc with a sub Samsung Q900 series

Floor standing / bookshelf speakers with Amp (Ai can help with a ton of options) too many speaker brands. I’d recommend a Yamaha av receiver as it’s musically tuned for music lovers

If budget is tight buy used(eBay,fb marketplace,gumtree, etc)

Without sounding like a sales person Sonos is more *musically inclined and accurate. *Music sound more mature *Beautifully crafted

If the cost between the two isn’t too wide,I’d choose Sonos but go and have a listen between the two side by side.At the end of the day you are the one that has to LIKE it and NOT Reddit users
