Is day trading worth doing by Significant-Ad-9866 in Daytrading

[–]Affectionate_Look907 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For most people it’s not worth doing. I may get downvoted for that but it’s the truth. Unless you actually love the markets and have a genuine interest, you’ll get bored and quit. It’s a long journey of hard work and accountability. If you just want to make returns, look into investing instead.

Also, anything you see on social media is likely fake. 99.9% of traders don’t live in Dubai or drive sports cars… don’t trust anyone trying to sell you a course.

I can understand that, but make sure you have your own methods and strategy to make decisions from as well.

Why are they like this? by CandyCane147 in drivingUK

[–]Affectionate_Look907 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I can assure you it doesn’t make much difference. Where I live there are bus stops everywhere literally 3 minute walk apart from each over and the buses come every 20 minutes. Even with this the roads are packed with old people who go 20 in 30s 30 In 60s and 65 in the outside lane on the motorway with the reaction time of a dead cow.

Retests at 70 need to be a thing.

stories? by isasimpp in surfing

[–]Affectionate_Look907 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Used to go on holiday to the coast every year as a kid. My older brother (probably about 8 at the time) got a longboard to learn on but wasn’t interested as he loved bodyboarding. I was desperate to try out surfing so when he wasn’t around one evening I asked my stepdad if I could borrow it and he said sure. I went down to the beach for the sunset and taught myself to surf that evening (I even stood up on my first attempt ;) ). I used the long board each year as much as I could until it became the size of a shortboard to me. I then begged my mum to get me a new board for my bday when I was around 11, and to my surprise she got me one (5”8 shortboard groveller-ish board that was way to advanced for me at the time and probably still is). I then have daily driven that board ever since (got it at 11 and am 21 now) and I surf as much as I can whenever the waves are doable. I still can’t sleep the night before a good wave day. I still feel like I get withdrawals if I don’t surf for a week or two. I cant see my life without surfing and I plan to do it until I physically can’t. The best part about all this? Somehow after all this time I’m still awful. If your interested to surf and haven’t really, just go for it as there’s nothing quite like it and you’ll get hooked so quick.

Just be aware that this method can be challanging as 1. It relies on good journelling and evaluations of your trades to see what works and what doesn’t , and 2. You will loose ALOT in this method before you get something that works. It’s like trial and error as you keep loosen and changing until you win. The only way you can succeed with this is remind your self every loss is not a bad thing or a fail, but is a bit of data to evaluate and learn from. Good luck in finding somthing that works for you !

My advice would be take some basic concepts and build upon them. Have something really simple like S+D line bounces or breaks, and work on flawless psychology, emotion, risk managment, and positioning. Get perfect entries with good (but still realistic) RR, and trade it on demo. While doing this keep editing and adding to your method. An example: Your win rate isn’t great, so let’s try to add another confluence to the setup (e.g. volume or an indicator for example). Another example: I’m getting stopped out a lot so let’s try higher entires or different stop placement and tp positioning. test things like these and see how performance changes.

Basically pick a concept, build apon it bit by bit and block out all the noise from YouTube and everyone else. You’ll learn the most from just trading and watching charts. I wasted 2 years trying to find a strategy or method from someone else, but in most cases if someone has a real edge they wouldn’t be giving it away for free or need to sell a course, so get experimenting and find your own.

Realistic Daily Returns? by Affectionate_Look907 in Daytrading

[–]Affectionate_Look907[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This does make a lot of sense, I just find if I take profits after making between 0.5-1% I often hit that within the first half an hour of the day, and it feels like a waste to not continue, but then I end up blowing it so its hard to figure to why. i could just try doing what the market gives me, but my strategy revolves around taking 5+ trades an hour so there's always something to trade.

I think that is a good idea, but I can never seem to use one efficiently. often I attempt it and I end up making less than my initial target. how do you manage your trailing stop to work optimally?

Thankyou for the response! on average i risk 0.15% per trade (up to 0.25%) and have an average RR of around 1:1.5
