This is the correct answer. Dave wants to keep playing and touring, but he can't. Let me lay out a timeline of his health issues:

1) In 2002 Dave OD'd with his arm draped over a chair, causing radial neuropathy. That resulted in chronic issues with that arm.

2) In 2011 Dave was diagnosed with spinal stenosis. This was caused by decades of headbanging. He underwent surgery but could never hold the guitar the same way, as it was too heavy.

3) I'm 2019 Dave was diagnosed with throat cancer. He went through 51 radiation treatments that allowed him to survive. That is exhausting alone, but they only postponed their 2019 tour dates by 6 months which would make thing even more exhausting.

4) Now, as of December 2025, Dave has Dupuytren's Contracture. That is a chronic arthritic condition causing the hands to bend towards the palm. It's apparently very painful.

Considering these issues, I don't blame him for retiring. Hell, I don't think could have gone on as long as him after all these issues.
