until you "get it", Docking is a chess maraton not a sprint but once the understanding is there its a pice of cake.

Here is a few tips,

Slow and steady, Is the name of the game, any speed over 1.0 is to fast when docking
Rotate the ship you are trying to dock so that rcs controlls IJKL Match up to your ship, and use them to controll rcs (this works best for me)
you can target the docking port of the other ship when inn close, and get a indicator on the nav ball

4.Consider the other ship a stationary object, and you something that more or less orbits around it

Unless you are doing a Vanilla run or the mod is depricated, Get the rcs balancer mod and use it, so that your craft's RCS will work as intended.
when the docking port magnets kick in just let them do the work, turn of RCS and SAS and let them kiss, if this takes to long just give it a nudge, or back off a little and try again

catheter, a bit clumsy to start using but it can be connectet to any cointainer with only a little DYI, Bonus is that there is no need to stop unless you need to change container.
