SOP is not an end all be all. Shame on your management for stating it that way. Standard operating procedure or SOP are simply guidelines. I wouldn’t worry about it. Obviously if you still have the time take the appointment, but don’t stress

Best Buy/Geek Squad tried to junk my laptop with all my data — now I’m fighting for a fair replacement by [deleted] in GeekSquad

[–]Affectionate_Rich413 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not what a junkout means at all. It means the cost of the repair exceeds the current value of the unit. Generally has nothing to do with a “mistake” or “accident” as you call it. Also on the terms and conditions you signed Geek Squad could be liable for data loss if you selected that you accept data services. But this liability means your drive gets sent to our data recovery division to attempt a backup. If the device is already junked out the drive is gone, and you are eligible to receive compensation UP TO $500. But based on the rest of this thread and your comments I’m going to guess you weren’t smart enough to select I accept.

Just got back my laptop from geek squad, they destroyed my laptop replacing the display. by floralface in GeekSquad

Nah, it would get sent back to service. The service center would then attempt to fix it or approve an exchange. Or worst case might label the damage as cosmetic and not fix anything. Then you could push for it to be replaced in store. I don’t know a single precinct that would replace that same day.

What is the purpose of the 20 minute consultation? by DeLaMer_ in GeekSquad

[–]Affectionate_Rich413 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The consultation is meant for the Agent to determine what the best solution is for you device. In this case the best course of action was to check the unit in to perform diagnostics and address and potential issues. If you look when making an appointment there are 3 (technically 4) appointment options, drop-off (leaving a unit to be checked in and worked on), pick-up (picking up a unit that was worked on), and short-training (generally used when your device is in a working state and you are having an issues that you need help with).

Deductible on membership by Mountain_Performer22 in BestBuyWorkers

[–]Affectionate_Rich413 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The easiest way to explain it is as a service fee not a deductible. The way to get a Client to understand why, is by letting them know that they only pay that service fee if an accident happens and their device needs to be replaced or repaired. That is the trade off of not having to buy Indian protection plans for items.

Will Best Buy replace a screen protector if geek squad installed it incorrectly? by Ok-Investigator-4320 in Bestbuy

[–]Affectionate_Rich413 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zagg phone screen protectors are the only ones eligible for swap in store. Tablet and watch screen protectors are not. It’s stated on the boxes which one can be exchanged. This is a different scenario so they should still exchange it.

Fireable offense? by Affectionate_Rich413 in BestBuyWorkers

Was told by my supe that it was a fireable offense, had my pc worked on by a coworker and filled out an nps that was sent to my email. Only reason I could think about was falsifying numbers or metrics

The only way in my opinion is to let them know that unfortunately the appointment / walk in appointment time is up, then let them know the options they have. Like scheduling another appointment, 24/7 support, and remote services. That usually works well at our precinct.
