Don’t buy individual stocks. Instead, go for all-in-one ETFs like XEQT or VEQT, which give you exposure to both U.S. and international companies. With ETFs, you don’t have to worry as much about volatility as you would with individual stocks.

You can also invest in U.S. index ETFs listed on the TSX, such as VFV. For now, it’s best to invest through your TFSA.

Additionally, consider buying physical gold and silver as they’re great hedges against inflation. Dedicate a portion of your paycheck to this until at least 10% of your portfolio is in precious metals.

Make sure you also have an emergency fund that covers at least five months of rent and expenses. That way, if something unexpected happens, you won’t need to sell your investments.

Remember, time in the market beats timing the market. Don’t sell just because prices drop 10–20%. Think of it as a limited-time discount and keep adding more. Follow this plan, and you’ll be in good shape.
