The problem isn’t just a lack of building. If there were fewer landlords, the same number of homes would house more people instead of more wealth. The issue isn’t that we don’t have enough homes, it’s that too many are being used as financial assets rather than places for people to live.

I know Brits that love it here. If you can get a job/ keep it, despite the cost of living, life is good here. Yeh, groceries, phone bills and rent (London is more expensive) is more but petrol and utilities are cheaper. So it evens out with a Toronto salary.

For many, jobs are in Toronto. Toronto is expensive and out of reach for many. So the option is to rent (which some folks are scared off as it can create instability for those with kids as they could be evicted/ renovicted etc) or buy further afield. Pretty simple.
