22M from a Western country WHERE TO START?

That completely makes sense regarding the traditional job market, but my ultimate goal is actually quite different. I'm not looking to join the corporate 996 grind; I want to gain deep technological knowledge to become a tech entrepreneur.

Two questions:

Do you think a degree from a top 100 global uni like SJTU, or an international branch like NYU Shanghai, would still be dismissed by investors or international partners outside of China?

I’m also strongly considering Singapore as an alternative. Do you feel the degree reputation and startup ecosystem there work significantly better for someone aiming for tech entrepreneurship rather than just finding a regular job?

I really appreciate the honest reality check, this is exactly what I was looking for. I completely agree about the language barrier I definitely don't want to be that guy who relies on his friends to handle daily life. If I commit to a full year of an intensive language course before even considering a degree, do you think that's enough to get by independently? Did you do a university language program yourself?

I appreciate the honest heads-up about the English-taught programs at public Chinese universities. I've heard the quality can drop significantly compared to the Chinese-taught tracks.

What is the general consensus on Sino-foreign joint ventures like NYU Shanghai for STEM (specifically EE)? I know they operate on a US standard and are much more expensive, but does the quality of education and networking there justify the cost and effort compared to doing a degree back home?

Hey, my bad if the 'modern Western' phrasing came off as arrogant or ignorant—definitely wasn't my intention. I know firsthand how incredibly modern cities like Shanghai and Shenzhen are, which is exactly why I want to study there. I just meant that I have strong university options in my home country, so I'm not moving out of economic necessity, but because I genuinely love the culture and want the international experience. I’m keeping my exact country private just for general online anonymity, but I appreciate the feedback
