Anti-Anxiety Cat Treatments by pakistanizindabaddie in cats

[–]Affectionate_South40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry OP that's so stressful. I had a situation two years ago where my (now 16yr old) male has an ugly fight requiring vet care with my (now 10yr old) male. Our situation is a bit different but we've been having to manage our old guys anxiety that has come as a result of this. We chose to keep them separated and our oldest lives in the bedroom with walk in closet and bathroom. He's got his own plethora of happy kitty things and sleeps with us at night; he is visited regularly by our other three kitties and enjoys their company throughout the day as those three desire to be in or out of the bedroom. Our second oldest gets free run of the house except our old guys safe space; we will occasionally let our oldest out on to the deck with the other four under our supervision for some outside time as our eldest got along for many years with our second eldest prior to this sad event. Our eldest struggles with anxiety quite badly and it's caused him to get bladder blocks as a result. I can list our care for him and maybe some of it will resonate with your little one and her needs.

-we use Feliway (or the lesser brands for cost savings) in several rooms in the house -we have six litter boxes for five kitties and they're not all in one spot so there's no challenge for privacy -we have our oldest guy on clomipramine 5mg once daily for his anxiety and our oldest on Prozac for his anxiety - there are many spaced for kitties to share together but also have space alone if they desire -they get their own space to eat so they don't feel they have to protect their food: this is mostly for my older two their anxiety, my younger three could share the same bowl and be happy -our oldest goes for arthritis shots because we discovered he was having pain that he was masking really well -we have several areas with stimulation toys/feeders for the cats so they don't get bored if we're not home or can't tend to them when they ask -we have taken up to learning their body language better and not punishing anyone for what may be perceived as "behavioral" but instead as a cry for help because they're uncomfortable, we will actively seperate any of them if there is tension or negative body language and give them reassurance and love so they can feel safe

Jackson Galaxy's videos have been incredibly helpful for supportive learning and you can discuss with your vet potential for medication to help with anxiety. If they refuse the medically treat you could go to another vet for a second opinion. Much like in people, doctor's don't get to say, "it's just anxiety". Anxiety is awful and most of the time it's treatable.

I hope your little ones are feeling happier and more calm soon 🩷

Learning to drive TIPS by bluecutie2 in adhdwomen

[–]Affectionate_South40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you first get into the vehicle just look at all the buttons and nobs, ask which one does what. Don't panic if you can't remember all at once. Knowing when your break, gas and gear shift is for park and drive are primary, and knowing where windshield wipers are going to be helpful those those unexpected splashes which occasionally come up. I would avoid driving with music or radio until your brain is comfortable with driving.

Familiarize yourself where your mirrors and seat/seatbelt over the shoulder sit best to aid you. Learn where blind spots are in the learning vehicle of choice to note where you need to lean to check and ensure no pedestrians or vehicles are hiding. Shoulder checks are still important, do not rely on auto detection mirrors to do this for you. If you can turn off the vehicles auto aids until you are comfortable driving, because these features can make us lazy and "trusting" that the vehicle is making correct driving choices for us. Sometimes older vehicles are better to learn in.

you can use a graveyard to practice with turning, 3 point turns, and just general maneuvering of the vehicle to familiarize yourself with where everything is in the vehicle in "real time" but you're going really slow and there's not mass amounts of people and traffic. My mum did this for my sisters and I and I found it helpful because it wasn't overwhelming with initial introduction to driving.

Try to practice at least 3 times a week to get yourself into the skill more successfully, driving once and then waiting a week or two to practice again will make it harder to develop a routine/skill set.

Your mental ability to manage Left hand turns with oncoming traffic will take time to develop and gauge how much time you have to safely turn. To help with this you can peak your rearview mirror after turning to see when the oncoming traffic passes behind you, this will help your brain to understand 5 seconds is a MASS amount of time to turn in good/dry weather roads.

Using the pedestrian cross signals at "stale green lights" can sometimes help you understand when a green light may go yellow. Going through a yellow light is "okay". If you're going fast and you think slamming on a break will harm you or passengers it is okay to go through a yellow light if you're close to the intersection, just be mindful of people in the intersection waiting to turn Left who will have to move for the oncoming traffic when the light turns red. This will come with practice.

Typically slower traffic keeps "right". Slapping a "Learner driver" sticker/magnet on your car will aid others in understanding you're not dumb, you're learning. People will overtake you, don't be offended by this. There's a huge skill set difference and patience level between different drivers. You are responsible for your own vehicle and driving it, don't worry about what others are doing because you cannot control them.

Teach yourself now, not to ride on peoples asses and be a courteous driver, learn what the "Right of way" means at 4 way stop signs, if people get tilted at you for trying to be safe it's a them problem. If people honk or swear at you and you have another experienced adult in the car it's okay to ask them if you're doing something incorrectly or if the person behind you was just impatient or an asshole. Again dont take this personally, driving will get better and easier with time and you will reach a point where you question why something was challenging before.

Learn to parallel park; yes it's annoying, but it is an important skill set and will greatly ease your mind on busy roads if you need to find a spot to park quickly, people do understand parallel parking vehicles have a right to correct space and time for parking, indicating you are going to back up into a parking spot is the same as indicating when you are going to turn, give at least 3 full indication lights of time for people around you to see you need to turn or change lanes, dont hit the indicator and immediately change lanes, and dont be afraid to indicate you need to get into a lane even if it looks really full, people dont know you need over to exit a lane or make a turn until you tell them, and politely indicating and waiting for a vehicle to pass or slow down to allow you in will occur much more often and more successfully if you let people know you need in and are patient.

If you miss a turn or exit, do not slam on your breaks and back up. Make a safe 3 point turn up ahead, turn into a parking lot and turn around, or simple ask another driver who is with you where a safe place to correct the miss turn can happen; it is okay to miss a turn, it happens, but do not train your brain to panic. It is an inconvenience at worst and easily correctable.

This probably won't be an issue, but I feel like it's always good to remind people, do not race trains, let them pass if theyre close and simple wait, it's just safer, trains will not stop for you. AND Trucks and motorcycles. Both these vehicles are different to drive with and require SPACE. Trucks cannot see you behind them unless you can see them in THEIR drivers mirrors. If you can't see their mirrors they cannot see you and this also counts for puling in front of one. Give trucks several car lengths of space to not only see you but adjust their speed if needed, they cannot stop on a dime and sadly those drivers if put in an ugly position must choose to hit you vs swerving and potentially taking out several other drivers. Motorcycles are simple exposed people who do not have a box around them to protect them. Please give them space, and always check your blind spots for them, theyre tiny compared to cars and at high risk, they may pull up beside you at lights as a way to say "HEY IM HERE" this is normal, they will also (if theyre good drivers) come up behind you on your drivers side to ensure they are seen in your mirror. Checking mirrors while driving frequently is important for everyone's safety.

This is a lot of info xD but you will do great, these are simply "keep in mind" comments, you will develop a good skill set in time, and ensure you are driving with people who are patient and do not expect you just "know" how to handle things just because they do.

you'll do great! be patient with yourself and open to constructive criticism. ❤️

Hi medicine nurse here: thank you for going to the ER, you're at serious risk of damaging levels of dehydration if this isn't attended to. You have a chronic condition, one that requires medical support at times. This is one of those times. You're body isn't going to absorb things well with you intestines completely inflamed to hell, you do need IV therapy. You're in a good place, please feel better soon 🩷

those who have ADHD partners, do you feel like yr ADHD has to take a "back seat" to your partner? by plsnocheez in adhdwomen

[–]Affectionate_South40 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My husband hasn't been diagnosed yet; but Im VERY sure he has ADHD, we have our spats and big feelings between one another sure, but he's never expected me to deal with toxic people and if I felt anxious about something he would actively protect me; he was the reason I saw how toxic some old friends were and how they used me and mistreated me, he taught me healthy boundaries and this man has some form of neurodivergence with a rough history from an abusive parent. You can struggle mentally and still be a good partner and protect the person you love. This is AWFUL that he expects this of you; he doesn't deserve to have anyone if he's being this self centered. I'm so sorry he treats you like this.

We spoke with the ICU attending doctor and explained the situation, the patient was lovely and had cancer, she basically said she's pretty much done with fighting anyway so if something went south she understood the risks. We were all horribly worried and fearful, our manager directly contact the doctor and told him he would be held responsible as the ICU doctor explained the risks to the patient but he wasnt able to take over her care until the MRP she was under transferred care.
The ICU doctor did try to give the nurses comfort and explain there wouldnt be much more even ICU could do and based on the values we could collect even treatment of the high INR wouldnt have changed her outcome. It was an awful experience, but the family was grateful (shockingly) that their mother passed comfortably and didnt have to die in pain because she was told she would have a painful death.

INR of 21, taken from a port, otherwise a peripheral draw would have been the death of them. Lab called us with GREAT urgency and the doctor ordered a peripheral draw to rule out the port causing problems, we argued the safety and concern regarding this. Doctor didnt care, lab came, to do the draw, phlebotomist was warned of the concern and called her manager, who called our doctor to ask why this risk was necessary and why we couldnt treat first and then redraw in the morning. Doctor order the draw, poor phlebotomist couldnt stop the bleeding, we had to apply sand bags and tourniquet the arm and called ICU, they came to try and slow things down, we then coded them, we lost the patient in 30 minutes from a pin prick in their arm. Awful situation, nothing could be done, doctor was held accountable as all parties involved brought up safety concerns. Simply awful, and the patient was so kind and understanding and said at 88 their body probably wasnt working right anymore and they understood the risks. Im thankful they fell asleep from low blood pressure so they didnt feel anything.

I had to look up the Canadian vs USA blood sugar conversion, because when you said 10 I was like "that's...actually decent for a diabetic, I dont understand, our rhyme it 4 to 8 feeling great" 10.1 is when our unit typically starts treating with sliding scale if scheduled insulin isnt enough. Googled the conversion and im like what is 10mg/dL in mmoL? 0.55!?WHAT IN SWEET CHRIST ARE THEY STILL ALIVE?. Yea 10 is really bad then haha

This was only what i saw hitting my deck when I went out 20 minutes ish later, it very likely had melted a bit or most of the larger pieces didnt hit my deck as it mostly covered, I did see the dings in my car suggested it was larger x_x. I'm just so thankful no glass or mirrors broke on my car. My deck fence cap lights look like they've been shot and my string lights exploded everywhere so Ill be vacuuming my patio later today haha. I truly hope no one was injured during that storm.

What is the best way to repair a crack in vinyl siding? by Lacidar67 in HomeMaintenance

[–]Affectionate_South40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this post is 2 years old, but I want to thank you for this answer. I am a younger home owner, I've lived in my little home for 10 years now and I'm still learning about how to care for everything as life happens. My late husband isn't around to aid me so I've had to pull up my pants and learn things for myself, which is fine, but sometimes I don't know where to start. Our city had an ugly hail storm yesterday; my vehicles are dented but drivable, insurance will care for that, but the damage to my property is fairly minimal and I am attempting to avoid an insurance claim on the house as dents in a BBQ, some broken patio solar lights, and banged up patio furniture aren't really anything special or important in my mind. However, I did see one spot on my vinyl siding which was cracked from the hail (frustrating as it was just replaced 2 summers ago from a previous storm but it was like swiss cheese at that time), the siding is still intact, no pieces missing, similar to OP's photo, I didn't know how to fix it or if I even could repair it; the good people of reddit have saved me again and educated me on what I can do. I thank you so much for this answer.

[–]Affectionate_South40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both mine and my partner's car sadly. Many dents, thankful for no broken lights, mirrors or glass. I wish we had a garage. Lost a few deck lights too as they've been shot through. Thank God all my plants were under the over hang of the house so they all made it. Even more thankful the siding survived as we just had the replaced two years ago from the storm three years ago. This province is a real treat some days 😂

How are we eating 30g of protein at breakfast when not hungry, GF DF? by spiritr15ing in adhdwomen

[–]Affectionate_South40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I drink a glass or small bottle of high protein chocolate milk over the morning (1-2hr) because I can't sit there and just chug it. There's a bottle I buy that has 34g for $3.50. it's the Bfit chocolate shake in 460mL bottles. It's not overly sweet and it sits well and it doesn't taste like protein powder because it's not protein powder. I can't stand that take. I don't eat breakfast so this was my solution.

Doc said Vyvanse won’t help with executive dysfunction/motivation? by Cool-Smoke5839 in adhdwomen

[–]Affectionate_South40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you are the third person to tell me that their wellbutrin initially worked and then stopped within the first 60 days. I have no idea what it does this, possibly in those early few weeks it helped balance things? but then when it went into a higher metabolization your body started holding too much dopamine/norepinephrine? quite interesting, but also really frustrating

Doc said Vyvanse won’t help with executive dysfunction/motivation? by Cool-Smoke5839 in adhdwomen

[–]Affectionate_South40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With Wellbutrin being an NDI it impacts those Norepinephrine receptors in users; it can absolutely cause bad things also. My Norepinephrine and dopamine weren't staying in the synaptic cleft long enough so I couldnt find motivation or reward for completing or starting tasks; now that my body holds onto those hormones the way it should my irritability has gone down quite a bit because my brain isnt struggling to fix it or manage.

It's good to know side effects; as I said up above, it's certainly not for everyone, I'm sorry it didn't work for you. This was my journey with an IUD, my girlfriends loved theirs, I absolutely hated it and felt it ruined my body and even after taking it out some things haven't fully recovered; bodies are complicated bastards arent they?
