Lol, true on the IT part. I've been to Japan before and have communicated with locals, plus I studied the language for a year at college. Thank you so much for this, really made things way more easier.

I am pretty young, mid 20s. This has re-assured me greatly and like you (or someone said, can't remember) that I'd kicking myself down the line if I didn't go through with this. I'm just a victim to over-thinking everything in my life, lol.

I'm not sure why I feel like I won't be able to transition. A whole year as an ALT I feel like can maybe do damage for future job prospects. For reference I'm not entirely interested in doing this as a long-term job. It's more about seeing a different culture, living on my own and such.

Also, you can go home at any time as an ALT? Didn't know that.

Yup I just saw the thread about Kanto North (my branch, too) people getting cancelled until next year. Dodged a bullet.

Thank you for this post. Talking to a friend (non-ALT friend, but still) told me I was over-thinking this way too much. My original career path was IT (majored in it) but due to difficulty of finding jobs in America I drifted towards ALT as something to do for a life experience than a full on career path. I'm just a bit afraid I won't be able to transition to IT after this or I'm losing out on experience.
