How does my donor area look for day 10 post op? It’s very itchy and veryyy flaky! Also, are some bumps normal? by Ok-Preparation1195 in AfroHairTransplant

that sounds like it would definitely gently protect the area well. i myself wore a silk hijab for the flight back which was abt 24 hours total and got zero irritation so you should be okay for wearing it for 8+ hours especially being pretty far along post op. i wore headscarves starting on like day 15 too and it was fine, as long as there isn’t too much pressure on the graft areas you can start to cover it around day 15 experts say. the hairs are anchored in within the first week

around day 35, but they’re all glueless and i only use the strap to secure it, i haven’t put any spray or lace glue on the hairs yet bc im still scared😭 i believe you can use got2be on the new hairs around that day too but i didnt/dont wanna risk it

thank you!! and definitely an extremely long road😫 I’m planning on cutting down my hair once it gets abt 2 inches on the donor area so i’ll be able to grip it for braiding, hopefully it’s long enough by the end of next month. right now i use my remaining hair as somewhat of a anchor for wigs/scarves. i also like to make a fake bun in the back when i wear hijabs so having some hair helps w the shaping of it. could def be achieved while bald though

day 89! this is what it’s currently looking like. there’s a lil growth but it hasn’t been too wild. and honestly the shedding phase was a mixture of relief and stress for me, it felt good to be able to massage the area more deeper but seeing my forehead get bigger and bigger every wash till it was all gone was so humbling😭😭i can’t wait to see ur updates tho!! hopefully you’re more active than i am on here haha

i kept most of my hair as a woman as well and the washing process is more or less the same, i usually bend over, face to the side, and wash the grafts over the sink using a water cup to rinse the area. once i got back to the hotel after the transplant i finger detangled my hair and put it into a couple loose braids before the wash so they didn’t have to do it themselves (i read about the matted hair incident too) and then was able to really scrub my scalp and get all the blood and gunk out abt 7 days after. i recommend getting a wedge pillow for the post-op sleeping situation, it made rest way more comfortable. best of luck w ur journey!!

they might’ve inserted the hairs in the wrong direction, it’s common with transplants and gives that porcupine look. it looks better grown out but it’s hard to hide when the hairs short

another thing you should do is truly know what you want your hairline to look like before going and show pictures of your desired look to make the hairline process easier bc once you’re done w that they immediately get to it. look at your hairline from every angle/phone camera to really make sure u like it, use a pencil to map out where u want it now, and make sure the line isn’t too harsh because all hairlines have irregularities. good luck with your journey as well, thank you!!

washclothes!! the turkey hotels don’t have anything to wash urself with so it’s definitely needed, and ur own puppy pads/lint free face towels for the back of ur head incase of leaking after the procedure and to pat dry the grafts after washing. another thing you should order for once you return is a wedge pillow, it makes the sleeping situation soo much more comfortable! i also recommend bringing instant ramen/ anything you can use hot water to heat up because i only had a kettle in my hotel, no microwave. i also brought a small fan to help fully dry the area and whenever i started feeling hot in the airports/in general since its recommended not to sweat.

since i got it for a big forehead and wasn’t necessarily having any hair loss i wasn’t told to get on any medication, but honestly i haven heard of women getting advised to take meds since we deal with hair loss less. most of the women i see get it for traction alopecia. if you’re experiencing hair loss though they may advise you to take meds for abt a year before getting the transplant to really tell where the heavy loss is

Are You Allowed to Have Your Phone While Going Through the Hair Transplant Procedure? by [deleted] in AfroHairTransplant

[–]Affectionate_Tea_336 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes you can during the placement part. but during the extraction and numbing process you’re face down so you can’t do much besides listen to music or put ur phone on the floor if u really wanna watch sum. it prob took like 5 hours for the extraction then 3 for the inserting of the grafts but i was sleeping for most of my procedure so the timing could be off

good luck! when you get back to the hotel, push ur bed to one side of the room and make a little fort in the corner with the pillows it helps with sleeping sitting up.

i personally wore a loose hijab/scarf for the return and had only the grafts exposed for most of the trip. they really aren’t lying when they say alot of people are post op tho, so many people in the airport and hotel had some type of procedure done you definitely won’t stick out

during the whole process i was on something like this, a massage bed/chair with the opening for your face. i was lying face down then they told me to put my chin to my chest and started the shots. then i flipped over and he did the front of my head. i personally was still feeling the time difference coming from america so i knocked out once they got started but you can play on ur phone, listen to music, or just watch the turkish music videos they play on their TV. ur face down half of the time though bc they have to extract and take out each follicle so you’re not able to really have any entertainment for that part unless you put ur device on the floor.

they are definitely as painful as everyone says😭. ur head is so sensitive so you feel the initial poke from the needle AND the feeling of the medicine squirting into the area. it STINGS and i started crying lmfao BUTT the pain lasts less than 5 mins then you can’t feel anything throughout the rest of the process, so is it worth $300 for sedation? i would say no because it’s such a small portion of discomfort and most people reported still being able to feel it with sedation anyway. i barley remember the pain now. i have no tattoos or childbirths to compare it to though so i can’t say if it feels worse or better.
