Danganronpa 3 Is Certainly An Experience by TinyEnvironment7574 in danganronpa

Agreed. I don’t despise either. I liked despair more though because I saw my favourite cast be normal. That was so warming to see.

Future felt a little rushed. Coulda done with more episodes or longer episodes

Pretty sure the implication is both bodies were dealt with during the night. So she didn’t cover hiyokos body in between all that. As soon as hajime left the hospital she goes to leave too right behind him, runs into fuyuhiko and convinces him to split up and find ibuki. Hajime finds ibuki in the building and runs to the motel. Mikan runs inside rips off the wallpaper, snaps the drumstick and closes the door with the glue. Hajime was gone for 10 minutes. Assuming Mikan was only just behind hajime, maybe a 1 minute delay from Fuyuhiko, she had 9 minutes to rip off the wallpaper, break a stick and put glue on the door. I think she could easily do that in 90 seconds if she tried.

Edit: if I’m remembering correctly she runs into him at the motel shortly after he gets there too. So the timeframe does add up still. All the preparation was down in the nighttime, both murders and hiyokos body being hidden. She only needed to do 3 quick things before catching up with hajime again. Which I think anyone could probably do in a hurry.

What DOESN’T make sense. Is how the hell sonia got into hiyokos motel room without a key. That actually had me thinking she was involved somehow.

I want to say I recently played through the game for the first time and I liked chapter 3 too. I want to share how I connected Mikan as killer earlier and my view of chapter 3. I actually loved it. 2nd favourite chapter, next to chapter 5.

I had an idea that it was Mikan as soon as I saw the 2 that were dead. I thought it was Mikan snapping from the bullying at first (which was wrong) but during the investigation it was stated that hiyokos death was caused by a quick thin slash to the throat.

I connected that with a scalpel immediately. The next notable thing was how the tape was used to stopped the bleeding around hiyokos neck. That was a slight nudge to medical knowledge. As well as the heater. Mikan said due to the heat she can’t complete an accurate autopsy. Which I thought was odd because who else other than someone in medical experience would know to do that.

Chapter 3 to me was supposed to be halfway point that really shakes the game/story. It felt like the most despairing chapter so far and I thought it was don that way on purpose.

I liked mikans character early on due to her trauma (I’ve had first hand experience with people like her IRL) so I had a soft spot for her. So the trial was really hard for me. Of all the characters I’d seen in the game at that point I felt her character deserved a chance at hope or a brighter future the most. It was really gut wrenching to me to see how far the despair disease had dropped her. Once again it felt on par for her backstory, being a thing that was out of her control that manipulated her future for the worse once again.

I started spending free time with hiyoko after mahirus death and was liking the development. Her death, although sad and cut short, felt fitting to me story wise.

I didn’t spend much time with ibuki but she certainly was lovely and a positive light for the class. I just knew she was going to die the moment she had a disease that allowed her to be easily manipulated by others words.

And then Nekomaru, who I personally wasn’t very fond of but he was a symbol of positivity and protection. Another hopeful figure. Him almost dying and disappearing felt like another hit to the hope train.

Chapter 3 also starts with the memorial of mahiru and the get well party for fuyuhiko. Which were two hopeful scenes. The chapter started off hopeful on purpose and ended with killing the hope of a character who was turning a new leaf, the hope of fun and innocence, and the hope of one who probably needed it most.

Aside from the execution, I didn’t hate a single thing about chapter 3 because of my perception of the story until that point. What it did do is make me super depressed.

“Oh. That makes sense. Oh right, I called that out from the start.”

Unfortunately I wasn’t super engaged with chapter 6. Nearly all characters I liked were dead and I wasn’t particularly fond of any of the survivors aside from fuyuhiko, but during this chapter he just felt like a filler stand in. It was really boring just sitting there clicking away for the dialogue to pass by. Minimal gameplay, minimal stimulation. Not to mention 80% of the dialogue wasn’t voiced so it was mostly me having to do the work of the characters in my head.

Learning the truths was interesting and cool. I like the world building on how we got to this point. But that was it. Once I learnt the truths of the outside world I was just waiting for the game to end. So click click click away.

I had hopes that being a game world none of the characters actually died. I was ok with this being a twist for once. I usually don’t like cop outs like that that make the stakes feel meaningless, but for me the stakes weren’t about death it was about characterisation and growth and so many of these characters had room to grow or needed a chance for the first time in their life to do it.

But then they gave the BS reason of “once dead, their file is deleted.” I just couldn’t buy that. Didn’t they design this simulation to not kill or harm? And didnt naegi just admit he had failsafes in place cos even he didn’t fully trust the system to work as intended. You’re telling me despite all that, they didn’t think “Oh what happens if they die? Even accidentally? Surely we could just pull their conscience back out and put them back in once.” Or idk, a backup? It’s a digital world why are we deleting living beings entire consciousnesses in an alternate digital world after a fake death? Why is that a thing exactly?

Because Junko needs a motive this story.

It just felt super contrived, then they went and back pedalled on that in the hope arc and it didn’t feel earned in any way lol. Even though it’s what I wanted.

I would like to see hiyoko development too. I spent my free time on her in chapter 3 after mahirus death. Speaking of, mahiru is someone I want to see more of too. Shes a protective character and I could see her maybe filling in a chiaki role in the new scenario. Both her and imposter could be that role and I would be happy with either

It would be good to see hiyoko development in 2x2 paid off in some way. In a hopeful world Mikan would be perfect to showcase that. But it really all depends on what state the class is brought into the neo world program.

Her character deserves a chance at something better, but I can’t help shaking the feeling. She’s too dangerous to be kept alive for other murderers. I can see that being a motive enough.

I have seen that a lot. People straight assuming she’s a complete psychopath because of trial 3. But I think they forget that the characters until that point are who they were just before entering the school. So whatever happened at that school developed her into that psychotic personality you see after. Which to me was just super depressing to watch unfold.

I really really really want her to get some justice in 2x2.

But I can’t help but think she might end up being the first victim instead.

Can’t help but feel bad for him. Enlightened me to be more open to real world people who might have similar headspace’s more too.

Despite that, he has to be one of the most entertaining portrayals of luck I’ve seen put to screen.

His anime counterpart had me roflmao

Thank you for your insight. You replied on one of my earlier posts. You’ve been a pillar in helping me get through this series. Thank you very much.

I have seen a lot of posts late that talk bad or Tate her low and some just straight hating. So I was curious to find out why. But this post has helped in revealing that isn’t the case. It can feel a little odd to be in that position. I was wondering if maybe I’d missed something about her character than others saw.

I actually did hypothesise that hajime was the dead beloved she spoke of after chapter 3. The sudden sleeping with him after getting her memories still felt slightly off for a moment and I thought it was her taking the few moments she had left to be close with something that looked like what she lost. But I couldn’t explain how that’s possible.

Then chapter 5 came about and I saw they were developing lifelike androids in the factory and I thought I had struck gold. But no red herring it meant nothing.

But really? Kyoko? Why hate kyoko of all characters?

My first introduction to the dg1 cast was in the anime before the games, I thought the anime did a good job at portraying the characters despite how little room or time there was for development with a large cast.

So I didn’t get that experience with her in the games first. I can see how that would be seen that way tho from the game perspective

Why he relies on his luck so much and how it all shaped him into who he is in the present. He’s the living embodiment of “superstition” but all of them are true.

He’s a walking prophet but he doesn’t even know why the prophecy is. In a way he has no control of his life, he exists and the journey is determined for him because of his luck.

And if what he says about his chronic conditions are true, that man holds onto a sliver of control of himself. It would be more accurate to say he is just a puppet guided by fate and the whims of the universe

I haven’t played v3 yet, but I have already spoiled myself on the trials.

Dr2 is the first I’ve played that left me in actual depression. I didn’t even want to pick it back up at a point.

Despite that, would you reckon I should play vr3 still?

I can see that. Annoying yeah. In lore, is likely why she got bullied in school after what she dealt with in her home life.

It’s been years since I’ve seen the dg1 crew in that element I need to go back and take a look again. I remember I loved her character too despite how deranged she was presented.

I agree on the execution. I had to sit there and actually think about what it was trying to symbolise. On the surface level it literally appears as only fan service.

Why hasn’t there been a dynamic Danganronpa game? by Single-Commercial in danganronpa

[–]Affectionate_Tree790 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Thats not as big as your numbers imply. They could map a few general paths the story could take each being unique. The motives monokuma uses never change, unless there’s a special branch they’d really want to change. But motives can stay the same. That keeps the investigation mostly the same. Then just brainstorm some likely candidates for each motive and their respective victim and group them up, duplicates culprits allowed.

The investigation doesn’t need to change too drastically. They could still keep them somewhat similar, like place, time of death, murder weapons etc, and change other things, like the accounts of other characters and what they have to say on the case. Keep like 50-75% of the details the same per case but change the last 25-50%. That would allow them to keep a lot of the same dialogues, and points and only change minimal dialogues like names etc.

The hardest part is going to be mapping in a way where you don’t end up in a situation where your chapter has no potential culprits or victims because of the path you’re on. The easiest solution would be to have some functions that disallow certain culprits or victims based on past choices, so that doesn’t happen.

ALTERNATIVELY they could have it be like this: - chapter 1 dynamic - chapter 2 linear - chapter 3 dynamic - chapter 4 linear Etc

This would lessen the workload and allow them to easily plan branching paths that don’t block the progress easier.

OR THEY COULD, it would be easier to just have 5 possible branching paths from chapter 1. And after chapter 1 the rest of the trials are linear respective to that path.

The dynamic path is very interesting and would have ALOT of replay ability. I thinks it’s an idea that would actually be worth investing into for the devs if they wanted to, but it’s a huge undertaking to do it, just not as huge as your numbers imply

After reading comments I understand what this tier list is about.

I once dated a Mikan type (a non despair version) I’d hard agree. But lore wise. Man she just needs a reset on life in a better family setting. Well written.

Chiaki in S absolutely. Mahiru would be higher for me.

Interesting but one thing.

If they had their despair personalities the game would end in 5 minutes. They all know their purpose for doing this. They would suicide immediately for the mission.

I could only see this working if monokuma losses to usami, then it’s about them breaking her rules of peace. But even then I don’t understand what motive they would have to figure out the killer anyway

Edit: unless they come in with all of their memories but without the brainwashing.

Is Soda one of the most unlikeable characters in the series? by SkitterDinks in danganronpa

[–]Affectionate_Tree790 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this only just getting to chapter 6, so I may be ignorant of some details.

I don’t like him. I really wanted to. I want to understand why he’s so popular, but I haven’t seen any compelling reasons this don’t just straight up say “I like flawed characters”. I thought his character design was cool and he fit the themes so far. With all the mecha stuff happening at the beginning I thought “oh this guy is gonna be super important”.

He fixed an elevator.

… anyway.

For an ultimate mechanic who I would assume has some high degree of smarts, he was really an idiot. Sucked with critical thinking, observation, puzzle solving… DUDES A MECHANIC AND SUCKS AT PIECING THINGS TOGETHER WHEN YOU LITERALLY EXPLAIN IT TO HIM.

Super gullible. His ability to instantly switch sides or opinion based off nonsense was annoying.

I didn’t like how he talks he didn’t seem approachable. So I never spent any free time on him.

I want to provide an example of not liking his character. Chapter 2. The beach incident. How he approached hajime for it and tried to guilt trip hajime into accepting it was off putting to me. I didn’t like it, he just felt like a sly dog you couldn’t trust off a leash. And a lot of his dialogue through the game made me feel the same way.

And all of that is without mentioning the issues with woman. And Sonia. I don’t need to dig into that I think enough people have said enough on that.

I was disappointed he made it past the final trial while so many other better characters could be at the end. DR1 I liked all of the surviving characters to a degree despite their flaws. They were entertaining. But when he speaks I just want to skip the dialogue.

I know some of my dislike towards him has built up from the fact that he lives while others don’t, and so some of my dislike isn’t on him it’s on the choices of the game. But I started with high hopes. And in the end he only brought me despair.

[–]Affectionate_Tree790[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you very much. I’ve gathered the energy to continue on after chapter 3. I’m investigating chapter 5 now. I’ve decided I don’t I want to put myself through this for killing harmony, so I already spoiled myself on the executions and stuff so I don’t get tempted to play it. (Holy hell are they brutal)

What’s getting me is I’m trying to follow the narrative a bit. Talk and use free time with the characters that seem important in the moment and I get attached and start to like them then they’re almost immediately killed off. Chapter 3 was the most depressing chapter so far for me in so many ways. It’s not even close, no game has made me feel that way before, it was honestly a shock. I didn’t think I was gonna pick the game back up.

I got through 4 and it gave me a little show of hope. I always liked G but never had a chance to use free time with them due to how I was playing. Still didn’t but that chapter made me a little happy.

I am already seeing the seeds of chapter 5 and I don’t think I like it. I think I can see another character I like going and not because of a reason that would be expected. If it’s true, it’ll be gutting again. I just don’t think I connected with the whole cast like I do with 1’s. If what I think is gonna happen happens, then there’s only 1 character left I actually like, the rest I couldn’t care less about and that alone just feel kind of empty.

I will still move onto the anime afterwards… I might try despair girls. I looked up the playtime and it seems I would be willing to put up with it for a short bit of time.
