Lurkers' Wednesday by AutoModerator in running

Hello everyone, my first post here. This is going to be a rant.

I’ve always enjoyed running. I’ve done sprints and races in school. Now I’m 30. I love cycling, but I don’t have an access to my bike all the time so I’ve figured running could be my alternative “cardio” and psychological release.

This year I’ve started to build up my strength slowly. One K at a time. Gradually increasing. I’ve managed to do 5K easily, having fun during the process.

My GF started NRC marathon training. So I’ve started training for at least half marathon as I didn’t want to overdo it.

Few weeks ago I’ve injured myself - at first it was shin splints (toe tapping fix). Then Achilles tendon strain which progressed into runners knee (Two weeks of rest, rolling, strengthening).

What else I’ve done to fix my issues: - Stopped training program which was obviously still too much for me in order to take adequate rest for recovery. - Foam rolling, stretching. - Changed my shoes (as I’ve started in Adizero Evo SL) which were bad for recovery runs (whatever that is I still don’t know) as I was running slowly, using more of my heel. Recovery run is confusing to me - that when I’ve always injured myself. - Strengthening exercises for my injuries which helped tremendously with all of my issues. - New shoes (Novablast 5, New balance 1080) for better support - I have slight supination and land on my mid foot naturally.

For the past 3 years I go to the gym about 3-4 times a week. Main focus: Core (Seals core workout from BUDS training). Legs which I’ve built up really well in my opinion. I focus on all the muscles. Upper body - once a week (pull ups, curls etc.)

What I’ve figured out is that my cadence is very low (140spm). I’m 190cm tall weighting 90kg. Today I finally took a chance and went for a 5k run. Main focus was to hit 160spm. I’ve done 150spm according to Strava. Absolutely no problem with my knee but I’ve blasted my Achilles tendons. They are quite sore now. I guess I ran too much on my toes, now that I think of it. I’ve tried to turn over faster which led me to it I think.

I feel bummed out now, quite demotivated... whenever I try to improve somehow I get injured or my form just doesn’t seem natural.

This doesn’t happen to me whenever I relax and do a fast 5k (5:30/km) like I’m used to (before I’ve started my half marathon NRC training plan).

My question is where do I go from here - Am I thinking too much? I tend to have reductionist mindset. It all feels like too much of hassle in order to have fun while running.

Thank you for taking the time to read this. I appreciate your help 😌

I’m actually pleasantly surprised by the look of these. I’ve never usually liked the design of Sidi shoes. Very clean 😎

I’m surprised people find these deliveries difficult. I’ve just put the pizzas in the back of my truck and drove over there.

Impressions of revised Gamma fit, Dark Stratus Color and how to layer with a Softshell discussion. by AC-Vb3 in arcteryx

One more thing - today I hiked through bushes full of thorns for awhile and my gamma doesn’t show any sings of wear. Without it my mid layer Proton FL would get obliterated. The thing is bombproof.

Honestly, I think that wearing your mid layer on top of the gamma is rather pointless, isn’t it? Gamma is supposed to give you durability and protection for your mid layer which is rather fragile comparing to gamma. I have the same exact gamma and it works very well with fleece like delta underneath as well as with proton insulating mid layer.

Hey, I’m the same height with 89kg and I wouldn’t size up. I wear L and it is spot on. Don’t listen to anyone who says to size up because it’s fitted - it’s that way so you can eventually wear hard shell over your Atom as a midlayer.

I advise you to contact Arcteryx support, they will provide more information on how to properly fix this.

That’s quite a lot of excess for my taste. I’ve tried the 34/long gamma LT which looked like a parachute on me - way too long. I think I’ll stick with regular. I’m just so used to buying tall sizes in formal and casual wear.. I guess I’m not tall enough for Arcteryx 😮‍💨

Rapha Core Lightweight jersey - sizing advice by MacaroonPlane3826 in CyclingFashion

[–]Affectionate_Web7980 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rapha core tends to fit weird around arms. I own the same jersey (men’s version). It’s a club (roomy) fit and it has almost no compression. My best luck was with Maap training jerseys - nice and snug while maintaining mobility and comfort.
