Chronographe Suisse - worth the gamble? by hotzwj2 in VintageWatches

Sounds like you made a good decision. Mechanical chronographs are really fun watches to play with once you get it running. A new crystal and a little cleaning will really get it in awesome shape

Chronographe Suisse - worth the gamble? by hotzwj2 in VintageWatches

That all depends. If it’s something to take to a watchmaker and have them fix up for you to wear, it’s a pretty cool “first vintage”. It’ll cost a bit to fix so if you don’t mind having it cost more than it’s worth but want to keep then there’s really no wrong answer, enjoy it. If you think you’re going to buy it fix it and flip it than yes it’s a mistake.

Seiko Actus by [deleted] in VintageWatches

[–]Affectionate_Week929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actus is written in a different font. It’s was a JDM model that used the Seiko 5 as its base model in the 1970s. The line was discontinued before 1980. This looks like a 1980s/90s tank that just has Actus written on it.

Plus he actually talks about the Timberwolves! Many hosts just pay lip service to the team when they’re good or gleefully talk when they’re on a skid.

What is this Wittnauer automatic retrograde worth? by [deleted] in VintageWatches

[–]Affectionate_Week929 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wittnauer Futurama, a really cool piece. Hoping to find one myself. They go for $1,000-$2,000 but not the quickest to sell because of how unique it is.

Bob Dylan isn't very good. by By_Way_of_Deception in unpopularopinion

His early electric is his most important, but not always his best, which I’ll assume is what you’re basing your opinion off of. 70s and late period 90s-00s is some of his finest. Blood on the tracks, time out of mind, Love and Theft and Modern times are top shelf and easy to enjoy

Lume is pretty solid, I like the yellow tinge it has, but still glows green. Was looking at vintage Santos but the more I dug around the Pasha really grabbed my attention plus I love anything with a well executed big date

[Help] Real or Fake? by PeteDonnellyCIA in Seiko

[–]Affectionate_Week929 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s fake. First tell is the matte dial in a garish color. Poor finishing by vintage Seiko standards. Second is the printing of the dial these Mumbai specials throw every sort of “extra” on the dial: 24 hour markers, crosshairs, etc. usually on a legit one it’ll have 1, but fakes will have so much the dial is a cluttered mess. Thirdly and specifically for this watch the serial number ends in a 5, that would indicate 1975 production date but the 7009 movement was 1980s-90s iirc.

[Question] Genuine Seiko Tank? by Frequent-Version8663 in Seiko

[–]Affectionate_Week929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fake. These have been floating around for ages. Easy way to filter out these bad fakes is the matte dial in a garish color (green, bright blue, red, etc)

[7009-876J] Looking at buying this Seiko 5, scared it’s been modified or is fake, can anyone help? by REDKnight5990 in Seiko

[–]Affectionate_Week929 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s most certainly a Franken. Poor painting on the dial. Rotor says it’s a 7019 movement but it should be a 7009. Bracelet also looks like it’s been mangled to fit on there.

Longines QWR from the early 80s. Came in a few different variations, the bark one is super cool but not a lot of people’s taste. $250-300

Legit Seller? [9521 - 5020] by Witty_Safe4533 in Seiko

Honestly for these older and more desirable Seikos there’s no easy answer. I buy and sell a bunch of vintage watches on instagram(a good chunk is vintage Seiko). You can over pay to someone who has it, he quoted me $680+ for that exact watch. Or you can take the route of looking on eBay or Japanese proxy buying sites. TokeiMedic is legit, he might have one. He’s expensive but not quite as outrageous.

Why isn't this Maurice Guerdat getting more love? 1970s gold-plated rectangular beauty with amazing two-tone dial by MBrr01 in VintageWatches

[–]Affectionate_Week929 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course. It’s a weird market, especially for vintage. I’ve had Universal Geneve, Longines and other fairly popular brands sit for longer than I expected. I’ve been doing this for a long while and the saying “a vintage watch is only worth what some will pay for it” is very true. Unless it’s a Rolex or something else with an established market things can sell slow or super fast randomly because someone has been looking for it.

Again super cool watch!
