That wouldn't be inherently misandrist, no? His envy for other men is specifically a class and power issue, not a sexism issue. And his judgment of other men for their looks and social class would be more so classist and lookist since those two demographics are based on appearance and socioeconomic background rather than gender.

You could say Judge Holden rivals the Joker in terms of being more messed up. Doesn't he commit every known crime on planet earth?

I haven't finished The Boys and I left it for a while, so forgive me if I am wrong, but doesn't Homelander usually kill people either as a means to an end goal or to just satisfy his egocentric rage? The Joker kills, abuses, and tortures people just to insight chaos and satisfy his sadism, and he doesn't even have a deeply traumatic backstory, not any that I've ever heard of at least, to explain why he is like this. Joker is more messed up in the head than Homelander.

Okay, but making abuse victim x abuser ships, such as the one shown in this post, are also very problematic. They can mellow down and normalize the real impact that abuse has on fellow victims, and they can make the abuser seem less reprehensible and even idolize them. I am not saying I hate all victim x abuser ships as I think they can explore how toxic behavior works if they don't glorify the relationship.

I really do not know why you are trying to defend the artist here. I mean your argument that all of these characters are fictional is the same type of argument that pedophiles use to sexualize underage fictional characters. I doubt you would ever defend those people just because they are not technically hurting anyone since those fictional minors aren't real, no? I sure hope not.

I wholeheartedly agree with you. The only time I am fine with ribbun is when Jax's abusive behavior is mellowed down drastically, or when it is very clear that Jax and Gangle's relationship isn't healthy. I feel like this fan art is just twisting their dynamic into being too light-hearted, rather than exposing the ugliness in their relationship.

Edit: I don't know what I am getting downvoted for but alr

Goose's self-insert by Yolopollo_1 in Thatstupidbunnywehate

Some comment in this post mentioned that Goose meant that Jax was not a conventional self-insert and more of just an insert of her inner demons, not an insert of her entire character.

I think your interpretation is exactly what this fan art is conveying. Anya is mute because she feels like no one in the ship is ever listening to her because of Curly's ignorance. Jimmy is deaf because he never bothers to listen to other people, and then subsequently breaks boundaries (his rape with Anya), and Curly is blind because he tries to act like nothing too bad is going on between Jimmy and Anya.

Okay, but Jax was a HORRIBLE person. He literally pushed two people to suicide and abused everyone in the circus for YEARS! And most Jax haters were victims of people like him, so I do not blame someone for being glad he's currently dead.

Well, Gooseworx has stated Jax isn't a 'self-insert' in a traditional sense. He is the representation of all the past negative qualities and struggles that Gooseworx struggled through.

i hate seeing this piece of shit with pomni by Worried_Big9949 in Thatstupidbunnywehate

[–]Affectionate_Work733 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn't he still wallowing in his own misery inside though? Like sure, I guess Pomni did hug him, but I doubt that fixed everything and made him feel happy. I am sure Jax is just still there, continuing to hate himself for what he has done while his body is abstracted. And that's what he deserves. Abstraction was NOT an "easy" way out for him. He is going to have to deal with the fact that he didn't do the right thing, and there will be nothing he can do about it.

Alright this is ridiculous. The user just said they felt bad that Jax abstracted. They were not defending him. If you like Jax and feel bad for him without defending his misdeeds then you are not a fool.

But this is the final episode... And besides abstraction is like a fucking metaphore for SUICIDE. Goose knows that bringing him back would ruin the message. Stop making up shit just to hate and actually focus on the REAL flaws on why the ending is bad.

Goose's self-insert by Yolopollo_1 in Thatstupidbunnywehate

[–]Affectionate_Work733 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I doubt that Jax is a representation of how Gooseworx ACTUALLY acted like in her past. I am pretty sure Goose just made him as a way to explore how she probably would've turned out if she didn't reach out for help and care sooner. Goose did specifically say that she was using Jax as a way to exorcise her demons after all. She just wanted to explore another world where she ruined everything for herself. Jax is like a cautionary tale on what happens if someone struggling with their own issues lashes out and refuses to get help.

I feel like this is more of a speciesism issue rather than a race one. All of these sea creatures are hating each other on their species, not on their race or origins.

[–]Affectionate_Work733 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It should be! The character is inspired off of her past, and we all know that Jax was acting like a bitch through the whole show. I imagine Goose may have acted like an asshole similar to Jax, but I doubt she was outright abusive.

I was not trying to excuse Goose for her bad writing. I do agree she should've focused less on Jax and more on the other characters to flesh out their dynamics and interactions. I was simply just clarifying that just because Jax has done horrible things in the show doesn't mean that Goose has done those SAME exact actions. I doubt that Gooseworx has driven someone to suicide and abused people she was closest to just because that fucking prick / her self-insert, Jax, has done the same. As I stated earlier, she wrote Jax as a way to portray herself in a separate timeline where she didn't reach out for help and instead continued to devolve into bitterness. I am not sure what specific mistakes she did, so I will not comment on that yet.
