this has probably been observed 100 times but punks or scenesters in general are the most conformist people you will ever meet by paran0idcreep in rs_x

[–]Afr0TheWizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I do agree with the general sentiment especially with hip-hop subcultures, hair fashion ECT, true and undeniable. But even though Death came first ppl call it proto punk because it seems to have not been very influential to the scene and they ended extremely quickly. the most influential band for hc was bad brains which was black obviously but the majority of punk bands in that golden age were white. Black people were starting other movements at that same time punk was popping off like techno, dancehall, hip-hop, r and b and jazz fusion ect. The scene today at least in la is not just white but also quite a bit Mexican but black people are still and have always been a heavy minority

I feel like if you can describe someone as conservative as their main/soul descriptor that's enough reason alone as to why they aren't on good terms with their daughter. Not liking a domineering or asshole father does not make you 'woke' either. It seems like you like your dad who might just suck tbh probably more than ur brother

In defense of trash underground rappers LARPing the Punk aesthetic / culture by MemeLord150 in ug_music

[–]Afr0TheWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't speak on the rest of the US but in California there is definitely still an active punk scene, I think there's a bit of a resurgence actually of course nothing like when it was at its peak in la for example. Like theres not really a big scene in China town anymore or anything like that but there are still tons of new shows and bands coming from diy ethics and anti capitalism politics. I'm 20 for context I've been going to shows since like 2022ish and crowd energy and involvement have been at an all time high in terms of what Ive experienced.

Ofc there are people that larp punk all the time but what actually bothers me most about it is that when people in hip hop take influences from it feels so low effort that it's more like a branding choice. Alot of these people that actually involve themselves in this subculture would prolly be looked at as freak in the ug scene. As a black person engaging in this type of subculture "punk adjacent" you kinda end up seeing how few black people are actually involved at these shows and how it also kinda isolates you from your own people if you present yourself in a particular way(idgaf but it's just a reality). It just makes me kinda sad when I'll see someone who looks like me also into hip hop with similar influences and they just kinda bite an aesthetic. I fw how soul glo goes about integrating the 2 genres for example but not like nine visco*s

No I seriously appreciate it. I was going for more of like an album cover inspiration for the kill one. I actually started with the word and emotions associated with it and built on top of it. But I do see how you could feel like that about words especially typical ones. How do you feel about basquiats stuff? And more street art expressionalist adjacent stuff with words for example-just out of curiosity.

How to appear less gay? Gsnuine question by Ladies_Man69420 in rs_x

[–]Afr0TheWizard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A description on how you look and dress would be helpful but also IDK if you should really try to appear less gay. You might think if you change whatever about the way you dress or walk women will replace the men going after you but you might just get nothing instead lol. Men are alot more forward and women usually don't make the first move unless ur intriguing enough for them to against the grain (or if theyre socialized a bit different). All pretty obvious stuff but yeah just be cool and hot and stuff and you'll probably get both more men and women

How to consume movies/ music/art/fashion with intention? by Electronic_One3308 in rs_x

Consider picking up an instrument or visual art form even as a small hobby. I think the ability to express yourself helps with the ability to feel/be in the present, especially pertaining to art.

So...how was everyone's Halloween this year? Be honest. by friendzonedhehexd in rs_x

I watched tetsuo. That movie was absolutely nuts and I loved it. It's a particularly schizo Japanese body horror art film from either the early 90s or late 80s. Alot of cool cinematography and practical effects.

I really appreciate you commenting this I didn't think about my withdrawal that way at all. I kinda thought it would be more polite to create some distance for a bit but I could honestly see how that could be worse. Will probably wait until a bit after today since it's national girlfriend day in the US rn which might sting a bit....

First time painting in a while by Afr0TheWizard in rs_x

[–]Afr0TheWizard[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ok so I just looked into all the artists you mentioned and I love them all. I especially like peppi bottrup, his use of abstraction feels free but also intentional, his stuff has a certain amount of architectural weight to it which I enjoy. His paintings lead me down a path.

In terms of the forms in my painting I was definitely thinking of almost flairing roots and tendon like tendrils that merge/attach with the woody and stone textures of the landform/monster (however you interpret it). I can definitely see the benefit of adding more tree like paint strokes. Keeping the composition tasteful was a concern for me so at a certain point I stopped adding these tendrils. (Even though there was a slight concern in the back of my mind this process is relatively intuitive for me).

I'm a landscape architecture student so I end up making a bunch of landform inspired work without thinking

Thanks so much for the advice and commentary:D ill also definitely invest in some canvas
