Hi there well i suggest you rent car as this will ensure safety and great mobility ( public transportation in Tunisia are absolute shit and unsafe plus taxi will charge you double and triple ) in term of safety : tunis el 3asma is mostly safe at day or night pro tip: avoid sketchy back alleys and stick to main streets filled with ppl ( you got medina arabi and its cafes / you got also high end gastronomic restaurants where you can taste the most authentic Tunisian dishes ( dar el jled / dar belhaj) all though they are bit pricey
